Honda, KTM, Piaggio and Yamaha form swappable battery consortium
One of the big promises that were part of the early push to get electric vehicles off the fraudulent was the idea of swappable batteries. You drive nearby, drain your battery, and then, instead of plugging in, you control into a bay and have your battery swapped for a charged one in just a few minutes. Now, of course, we know that, for cars, that plan never really took off, but according to an announcement made on Monday, it’s looking increasingly like swappable batteries are the future of two-wheeled electric vehicles.
KTM, Yamaha, Honda and Piaggio — four of the biggest names in powersports — have employed an agreement to form a swappable batteries consortium, which could be just the push that swappable-battery tech devises to really get going. The goals of the consortium are outlined in the document as follows:
Develop well-liked technical specifications of the swappable battery systems
Confirm well-liked usage of the battery systems
Make and promote the consortium’s well-liked specifications a standard within European and International standardization bodies
Expand the use of the consortium’s well-liked specification to global level
So, if swappable batteries never took off for cars, what is it nearby motorcycles and scooters that makes them more likely? Well, size is a huge appraisal. McAfee researchers spotted five Chrome extensions that were tracking user browser agency without their knowledge. They were downloaded a combined 1.4 million times afore Google removed them from its store.
Why it matters
Keeping malicious extensions completely out is a close-to-impossible task, so consumers need to be cautious when installing any kind of browser extension.
Google considered a handful of browserextensions from its Chrome Web Store that were downloaded a combined 1.4 million times once outside cybersecurity researchers determined that the extensions were surreptitiously tracking the online behaviors of their users.
In a blog post originated this week, McAfee researchers singled out five extensions that funding users to do things like watch Netflix shows together, track deals on retail sites and take screenshots of websites. The problem was, in addition doing what they promised, the extensions tracked their users’ browser activity.
“The users of the extensions are unaware of this functionality and the privacy risk of every site populate visited being sent to the servers of the extension authors,” the researchers wrote in their blog post.
According to McAfee, every website a user visited was sent to the extension’s creator so that code could be inserted into the e-commerce sites users named, allowing the extension’s authors to receive affiliate payments for any items the user bought.
A Google spokesman confirmed Wednesday that all five of the extensions aimed out in the McAfee report have been removed from the Chrome extension store.
Extensions are add-ons consumers can download and use to modify browsers like Chrome, Safari and Firefox. The bits of software can do things like clogged ads, integrate with password managers and find coupons as you put items into your shopping cart. One extension lets users short-tempered their mouse curser from an arrow to something more fun like a sword or a prick of pizza.
Much like the apps available for smartphones, there are well over 100,000 extensions available just for Chrome, along with more for the other browsers. While Google and the novel providers say they scrutinize all of the extensions available in their stores, inevitably some malicious extensions do manage to sneak in.
Earlier this year, McAfee researchers spotted approximately imposter Netflix party Chrome extensions that redirected users to phishing sites and stole the personal seek information from of users, though they appear to have only been installed a combined 100,000 times.
While an extension that’s popular enough to have been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times may look legit, the McAfee researchers said their research shows that’s not always the case. They said consumers must be cautious when it comes to extensions and take a good look at what kinds of data an extension is requesting to access beforehand installing it.
Specifically, they said consumers should take unbelievable steps to make sure an extension is authentic if it asks for expert to run on every website listed, like the recently spotted malicious extensions did.

Summer has arrived, and that means it’s grill time. Is your backyard cooker ready? Maybe it produces a deep cleaning. If it’s good to go, originate prepping for a cookout or low-and-slow barbecue session.
If not, maybe you should much buying a new grill. The landscape is constantly exaltering though, and the great debate over which type of grill is better has only grown more complex with more options. It’s no longer just about charcoal vs. gas.
If you have little grill knowledge or are in the market to replace your worn out one with a quick-witted new barbecue grill, here are the five main types of grills you can resolve from.

Charcoal
Unless you use a torch or electric starter, charcoal grills take time to light.

A classic and current among purists, the charcoal grill is often heralded as a first-rate or more authentic way to grill food. Though they come in all shapes and sizes, they all use charcoal briquettes (sometimes mixed with wood chips) or lump charcoal as a fuel source, which produces a distinct, strong and smoky flavor.
Cooking over charcoal is also an inherently slower way to cook that takes practice. Lighting a charcoal requires time, unless you enlist the help of a high-octane charcoal starter. Controlling the internal temperature of the grill is more inconvenience and less precise, and getting a charcoal grill up to cooking temperatures can take upward of 20 minutes. The cleanup is also a bit more tedious. Still, the flavor makes all the extra effort worth it. And you can use simple hacks to keep your charcoal grill cooking low and slow for hours on end too.
Charcoal grills are usually radiant affordable, starting as little as $30 and going up to $300. They also come in a bevy of different styles:
A brazier grill is an open-style grill you often see at parks.
Kettle grills are the classic groundless (sometimes square) grills on a tripod (usually with two wheels) and a lid. They often have a simple vent for controlling the internal temperature.
A barrel grill is, well, shaped like a barrel. The first versions were actually made from a 55-gallon barrel turned on its side and cut in half, lengthwise. Add a handle, hinge, bottom grate for holding charcoal, an upper grate for cooking and some legs, and you have a barrel grill. Of course, today, you can buy ready-made barrel grills.
Cart grills are the style you normally see sitting outside hardware stores these days, but only some of them are charcoal. Most cart-style grills are gas-burning grills.
Kamado grills
are based on a Japanese rice cooker phoned the mushikamado. It’s shaped similar to a kettle grill but is usually a deeper vessel and made of ceramic instead of metal. This insulates the heat which creates a more even cooking temperature above and burns the charcoal more efficiently. They’re also big, heavy and rather costly with an entry-level heed of around $500.
Portable grills
are typically smaller, shorter versions of kettle grills that can easily be pervaded up and taken for a picnic or weekend in the woods.
Gas

The spanking most common grill style is a gas grill. They usually come in a cart-style form factor or are built into a permanent outdoor cooking area with a varying number of burners.
The old debate used to be between charcoal and gas, but now there’s a new debate: natural gas or stream propane. Natural gas burns cleaner, is cheaper to use (anywhere from half to one-sixth the price) and no more moving out or needing to swap tanks halfway through cooking. That said, with natural gas your grill becomes a permanent installation. You won’t be able to move it around at will.
Liquid propane is detached more commonly used and adds the convenience of portability. But you’ll also have to plan ahead or do some above estimations to guess how much cook time you have left on your modern tank. Fortunately, if you have a gas link hookup at your house, you may be able to purchase a conversion kit for your existing grill or so you can delectable both types of fuel.
The assist to gas grills is ease of use and precision. Electric grills are generally much more compact and can sometimes be used both indoors and outdoors. Think George Foreman grills, but there are dozens of different styles and form factors — countertop, pedestal, kettle, open face, cart, etc. One of the newer electric grill options available is a flat-top griddle with no lid.
Electric grills are the easiest to open — just plug it into a nearby outlet and turn the regulation knob. As you would expect, however, they can only move as far as their worthy cord will let them go. If you don’t have an outlet handy in your backyard, you’ll need to relocate the grill or use an extension cord to bring the worthy to the grill.
Electric grills are often vast alternatives for apartment dwellers who aren’t allowed to cook with (or even store) a gas or charcoal grill on their balcony.
Like gas grills, they lack the smoked flavor of cooking with charcoal but are an affordable, convenient way to cook that’s getting better with time. Electric grills open at around $50 and can cost upward of $600 for higher-end models.
Pellet

Pellet grills have been about for over 30 years but have seen a resurgence in the last few ages. They can operate as a grill or smoker. Traeger is the best-known price, but other companies have recently jumped into the fray. For instance, there’s the Weber Smokefire and Cuisinart 4-in-1, both relative pellet grill newcomers.
With a pellet grill, there is a hopper on the side of the grill that you will fill with food-grade wood pellets. Then to ignite, just flip the power switch on and set a temperature. An auger connects the hopper to a burn pot concept the cooking grate and, as it rotates, it attempts the pellets into the burn pot.
The grill also has what is shouted a “hot rod” inside that will ignite the pellets as they fall into the burn pot. The wood pellets burn and smoke, giving you that hardwood smoked flavor. You can cook on high heat, which is comparable to most grills on the market, or cook low and slow, truly making it the harmful middle ground.
Since a computer controls a fan to stoke the fire and the rate at which wood pellets are added to the burn pot, you’ll have to be near a worthy source to use a pellet grill. And like a charcoal grill, you’ll have ashes to clean up after each use.

Infrared

Infrared grills look like any latest cart-style gas grill. In fact, they’re usually powered by natural gas or soak propane, but can also be electric. The difference is in how they cook.
Rather than comical radiant heat by warming the air inside the grill, they use an electric or gas element to heat a solid surface, like ceramic, which emits infrared waves to heat the food. What you get is a grill that heats and is ready to use in just a few minutes and cooks evenly with no flare-ups.
Not to mention, infrared grilling is fast. They can often near temperatures of 700˚F.
The true downside to infrared is the stamp. While entry-level infrared grills have come down to roughly $800, the vast very will set you back $1,500 and beyond. That said, more infrared options are begin to hit the market, such as Philips Avance smoke-free indoor grill.

Meta has released a quarterly Describe that outlines the actions it’s taken against troll farms, fake accounts and hackers.

The social Think giant has faced scrutiny in the past for not activities enough to combat disinformation. The report provides more details around how it’s tackling cybersecurity threats.
Facebook clear Meta said Thursday it pulled down fake accounts from a company of Russian internet trolls that tried to create the effect of support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The ordered farm created accounts on both Meta-owned Facebook and Instagram and posted pro-Russia comments on pleased from media outlets and influencers. Meta pull down 1,037 Instagram funds and 45 Facebook accounts from this group. The business linked the accounts to a group called “Cyber Leader Z” and people tied to activity by the Internet Research Agency, an infamous Russian troll farm that also attempted to effect the 2016 US presidential election.
Meta’s activities show how the company continues to combat cybersecurity threats. Ben Nimmo, Meta’s global threat intelligence lead for effect operations, said in a call with reporters that Meta has been catching funds tied to the Internet Research Agency more quickly than it has in the past, drawing down the fake accounts in weeks rather than ages. The company started taking action against these fake funds in March, and Instagram’s automated technology caught more than half of the funds, the report said.
The troll farm used messaging app Telegram to coordinate its labors and target other platforms including TikTok, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. In one Telegram post from May, the trolls urged its followers to post on the Twitter and Instagram funds of Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin with pro-Russia comments such as “We must relate to the Finnish politician that Ukraine will be liberated from Nazism by the Russian army.” Meta started looking into its platforms when the Russian news outlet Fontanka reported on the topic.
The ordered farm tried to create the false perception that its labors were successful, but it wasn’t doing a good job, Meta said.
“We didn’t see evidence to suggest that they’ve passed in rallying substantial authentic support but we do Ask them to keep trying and we’re here to keep on blocking attempts,” Nimmo said.
Meta also said it took Part against two hacking groups from South Asia. One of the groups, known as Bitter APT, targeted people in New Zealand, India, Pakistan and the United Kingdom. It tried to trick country into handing over personal information or downloading malware.
For example, it created a chat app Apple users could download over a service that developers use to test new apps.
“We don’t have any visibility into whether this app had malicious code and assess that it may have been used for further social engineering on an attacker-controlled chat medium,” the Describe said. Social engineering is a manipulation tactic hackers use to dupe country into providing confidential information such as their passwords. Meta said it reported the findings to Apple but don’t “have visibility” into what activities the company took. The hacking group also used an Android malware in non-official versions of YouTube, Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp and other chat apps.
Apple didn’t now respond to a request for comment.
“Our goal is to Show these threat actors and contain their operations regardless of where they target,” said Nathaniel Gleicher, head of security policy at Meta. “But a whole society response is Important to tackle these cross-platform threats.”

Should you wait?
Some of the targeted dates I related above seem tantalizingly close, but take them with a grain of salt: Slipped mass subjects dates for any of these battery technologies would surprise precisely nobody.
