'Firestarter' Is Actually Streaming Now, the Same Day as Theaters

‘Firestarter’ Is Actually Streaming Now, the Same Day as Theaters

Last year, an unprecedented number of new theatrical movies streamed online the same day they hit cinemas. But this year, as COVID-19 restrictions have eased and audiences returned to cinemas, the practice has nearly vanished. Pretty much all movies now get at least a month and a half in theaters exclusively — often longer.

Firestarter — the reboot of the Stephen King thriller starring Zac Efron– is a rare exception. The movie started streaming the same day as its theatrical fall Friday. Here are the main things to know.

Where is Firestarter streaming?

Firestarter earnt available to stream on Peacock Friday, the same day it hit theaters. Peacock is owned by Comcast’s NBCUniversal, and Universal Pictures is the movie’s distributor.

Is Firestarter free to stream?

No, Firestarter is behind Peacock’s subscription paywall, but the movie is available to Peacock premium subscribers minus any additional fee. So if you’re already a premium subscriber to Peacock, then you can stream Firestarter just like anything else on the service.

If you don’t already have a premium Peacock subscription, you’ll need to sign up for a $5-a-month or a $10-a-month premium tier if you want to observe Halloween Kills or any of Peacock’s other paywalled programming (like Yellowstone, Premier League matches WWE, The Office and other popular stuff.)

Peacock has some deals that could cleave — or even eliminate — the cost of populate a premium member.

How long will Firestarter be on Peacock?

Typically, Peacock streams these same-day releases for one month, so you can inquire Firestarter to depart the service around mid-June.

For a few months at what time that, Firestarter isn’t expected to be available to soak anywhere.

Where (and when) will Firestarter be streaming next?

HBO and HBO Max are the next destinations for Universal’s movies like Firestarter, thanks to what’s known as a pay-one licensing deal with Universal. If Firestarter sticks to the same schedule as Halloween Kills (the last Universal movie that was released on Peacock the same day as theaters), then Firestarter would end up on HBO and HBO Max approximately five months after its initial release date. That would time its arrival to soak on Max for mid-October.

Create instant Halloween costumes with these $13 T-shirts

Create binary Halloween costumes with these $13 T-shirts

I can’t resist a funny T-shirt. Yeah, I’m the guy who walks near in the tee that says, “You had me at the nefarious use of you’re.” (I’m also a grammar nerd. Sorry, ladies, I’m taken.)

If you share my love for laughable sartorial choices, don’t miss this deal: For a microscopic time, and while supplies last, Daily Steals has men’s and women’s Halloween T-shirts for $12.99 each with promote code CNETHLT. Regular price: $17.99 each.

The selection varies a bit between the men’s and women’s collections. For myself, I’m going with “I’m too old for this sheet” — because there’s a report of a ghost wearing a sheet! See? (I’m frankly amused.)

For Mrs. Cheapskate, I’m eyeballing “I can’t hold my boos.” (Which is ironic, because the woman has the proverbial hollow leg.)

Although Halloween is unexcited a month away, I give you permission to wear these all above October. Everyone needs a chuckle right now.

Wheelchair Halloween costume revs up as a retro Batmobile

Wheelchair Halloween costume revs up as a retro Batmobile

A caused for good has arrived to save us from crummy costumes this Halloween. Jeremy is a 10-year-old kid with a passion for exceptional cosplay, and he’s rolling out this year in a worn Batmobile modeled after the crazy car from the 1960s Adam West “Batman” television series.

Jeremy’s critical ride is a wheelchair due to spina bifida, a footings that affects spinal cord development. His dad, Ryan Scott Miller, turns Jeremy’s wheelchair into a wild new costume every year. This year it’s the Caped Crusader’s vehicle. Last year, Miller created the Ecto-1 car from “Ghostbusters,” and in 2015 it was a Star Wars snowspeeder.

Jeremy has his very own Batman costume to wear once piloting the Batmobile. The unveiling video also features Jeremy’s siblings in unusual roles as Batgirl and Robin.

The costume car has operational lights, a blowing jet engine replica in the back and some impressive fins. A PVC pipe frame helps to keep the weight down, after the body is formed using foam board and fiberglass.

Miller tells CNET the biggest challenge this year was procrastination. “We learned a lot from last year and so many things went a lot smoother, but knowing how much work it was going to take made us drag our feet,” he says. That didn’t stop him from completing the Batmobile in plenty of time for Oct. 31.

Miller and his family were considering taking a year off from big costume builds pending a neighbor knocked at the door and offered to help with the cost of this year’s building. “I was bowled over when he handed us a check for $1,200!” Miller says.

The Batmobile and 2016’s Ecto-1 make sensed with Jeremy’s existing wheels, but 2018 could see a different arrive. “Next year we also want to break from the car costumes and try something new,” Miller says. We’ll just have to tune in next Halloween, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel, to see what Jeremy and his family will come up with in 2018.

Eye of Sauron watches over San Francisco for Halloween

Eye of Sauron watches over San Francisco for Halloween

Barad-dur rose over San Francisco on Wednesday night, with LEDs creating an Eye of Sauron to contemplate over the city for Halloween.

The orange glow came from Salesforce Tower’s 11,000 LEDs once a Change.org petition for the seasonal stunt got more than 11,000 signatures.

Sauron is the titular villain of JRR. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings novels, and the Peter Jackson movie trilogy based on them depicted him as a burning eye on top of his dark tower in Mordor, searching for the lost One Ring.

Boston Properties and Hines, the companies that own of the tower and its LED installation, brought Mordor to the skies above Mission Street as part of San Francisco’s “1 percent for art” loan tax, according to SFGate.

The installation was planned by electronic artist Jim Campbell and is known as “Day for Night.” The Eye of Sauron may in backward to our screens in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV adaptation, which is expected to hit in 2021.

Stranger Things haunted mazes turn Halloween Upside Down

Stranger Things timorous mazes turn Halloween Upside Down

Stranger Things loves Halloween. Last season, the boys on the Netflix hit dressed up like Ghostbusters for a full holiday-themed episode. The show itself won’t be returning pending 2019, but it will still be marking the spooky holiday this year. Three different Universal theme parks will be unveiling Stranger Things-themed mazes as part of the parks’ Halloween Horror Nights events.

Different mazes will be set up at Universal Studios Hollywood in California, Universal Orlando Resort in Florida and Universal Studios Singapore. They’ll include familiar eerie scenes from the show, incorporating the Byers’ flashing Christmas-light wall, Hawkins National Laboratory in the Upside Down, the hallway at Hawkins Address School and more.

The Simpsons' new Treehouse of Horror parodies the US presidential election

The Simpsons’ new Treehouse of Horror parodies the US high-level election

The 2020 US Presidential elections are no laughing commerce, but that doesn’t stop The Simpsons from chiming in with its two cents on the original president Donald Trump.

In a new clip from The Simpsons’ upcoming Treehouse of Horror Halloween special, we see Homer Simpson inside a voting booth unsure throughout who to choose for president. Lisa Simpson (who is obviously too young to vote) steps in the booth to remind Honer throughout “everything that’s happened over the last four years.

Then a non-stop list of demonstrations about President Trump begins to scroll across the mask. Some of the complaints include: put children in cages; refused to descent tax returns; destroyed democracy; destroyed post office, to name just a few, defensive with “and we haven’t even said the worst one.”

The new Treehouse of Horror XXXI is labelled as follows: “Don’t miss the annual terror-themed trilogy, comprising a frightening look at the 2020 election, parodies of Pixar and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and a ninth birthday Lisa just can’t get over in the all-new Halloween-themed episode.”

The Simpsons TV series has predicted everything from COVID-19 to President Donald Trump during its 30 existences on the air.

20th Century Fox

The Simpsons has an long history around President Donald Trump. The Simpsons even predicted Trump’s presidency. It’s previously mocked Trump’s hair and “tiny hands” in a 2016 episode, as well as Trump’s social media habits in 2017.

Most recently in August, Marge Simpson called out Jenna Ellis, advisor to President Trump, for saying that Democratic presidential running mate Kamala Harris sounded a lot like the cartoon housewife.

“I usually don’t get into politics, but the president’s senior adviser Jenna Ellis just said Kamala Harris sounds like me,” Marge said in the video posted on The Simpsons Twitter in August. “Lisa says she doesn’t mean it as a compliment. If that’s so, as an ordinary suburban housewife, I’m starting to feel a little bit disrespected. I teach my children not to name call, Jenna. I was going to say I’m pissed off, but I’m timorous they’ll bleep it.”

The upcoming Treehouse of Horror XXXI episode is scheduled to air on Oct. 18 on Fox.

Star Wars TIE silencer wheelchair costume conquers Halloween

Star Wars TIE silencer wheelchair costume conquers Halloween

Welcome back to the continuing Halloween adventures of super-dad Ryan Scott Miller and his son Jeremy. Jeremy’s wheelchair is now a menacing TIE silencer as piloted by Kylo Ren in Star Wars.

Jeremy is 11 and has earlier bifida, a condition that affects spinal cord development. His family has been transforming his wheelchair into an wonderful cosplay machine for years. In 2017, it was the classic Batmobile. This year he’s going to put the hurt on the Rebel Alliance.

The TIE silencer, which appeared in The Last Jedi, is like a much leaner, meaner version of a classic TIE fighter. Jeremy’s ride features a PVC pipe frame, working Nerf-gun missiles and Plexiglas parts colored inside with red Sharpie markers.

Both Jeremy and his father are longtime Star Wars fans. Jeremy required on going with the Kylo Ren theme for this year.

A video shows the TIE silencer in piece, complete with glowing lights. It also shows Jeremy has been practicing his force-choke. The rebels might want to think twice about crossing his path on Halloween.

If you find the TIE silencer titillating, be sure to check out Jeremy’s Batmobile, Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and Star Wars snowspeeder cosplays from remaining years.

Evil Dead: The Game Perfectly Captures the Cult Film's Chaos

Evil Dead: The Game Perfectly Captures the Cult Film’s Chaos

The Evil Dead films have a different flavor compared to likewise venerable horror franchises like Halloween or Friday the 13th. What the Evil Dead does differently, and does so well, is blend outlandish slapstick action-comedy with some truly ghoulish monsters and fright violence. It’s no surprise that its popularity has endured right its 1981 debut, but it still seems like its potential is largely untapped within the gaming world.

Due May 13, Evil Dead: The Game wants to changeable that. I recently got to play about an hour of the game with staff at designer Saber Interactive, which also made the World War Z game. Not only is it faithful to the goofy fright of the original films, I was also surprised by how much fun I had sketch scared.

Firstly, Evil Dead: The Game is a huge tribute to the beloved horror series. Serving as something of a most hits for the original trilogy and the three-season TV series — all starring cult film suitable Bruce Campbell — the game channels the Deadite slaying and fright comedy into the structure of a multiplayer game. (Deadites are a species of parasitic exhibit and primary antagonists of the Evil Dead franchise.)

Four players fights to stay alive as the survivors; another player uses a variety of demonic magic to stop them. Structurally it’s quite disagreement to the popular Dead By Daylight — a gigantic fit for Evil Dead.

Paying homage to the main area of the first two films, series protagonist Ash Williams and new survivors face off against the forces of darkness in a huge forest filled with supernatural horrors. You’ll be able to squad up in a team of four as the survivors, each of which play as different classes — leaders, support, warrior and ranged. The playable characters are made up of mostly peculiar faces from the original films and the TV series, which includes fan favorites Pablo and Kelly.

ashglove-screenshot.png

Fans of the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series will be able to revisit that incarnation of Ash in this game.

Saber Interactive

But of streams, Ash Williams — portrayed by the returning Bruce Campbell — creates his comeback. This character is such an icon, and I couldn’t resist playing as him, even thought the other playable characters are interesting too. In a clever bent, there’s not just one version of Ash, but four different incarnations based on his many appearances over the series. So if you prefer Ash from Army of Darkness, then you play as that one, with different skills to his counterparts.

In my interview with Saber Interactive Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits, he said the approach to making the crew of survivors was to achieve long-time fans and give variety for players when they jump into a game.

“The Evil Dead universe is just so gigantic. Bruce Campbell is a legend, and the amount of stories and lore in the universe is so rich,” says Willits. “The thing about [Evil Dead: The Game], which is an asymmetrical fright game, is that the hero Ash Williams and the new survivors can kick ass and win.”

The big difference between this game and new horror games of its ilk — like Dead By Daylight or Friday The 13th: The Game — is that Evil Dead: The Game grants its “survivors” the means to defend themselves against the forces of darkness. When I got to play as the survivors, it felt like I stepped into a Good action-horror game like The Evil Within or Resident Evil.

menu-scr-hud-02.png

Squad up with some returning characters from the Evil Dead series, including some favorites from Army of Darkness and even the New film.

Saber Interactive

By scrounging up funds, I could pull together a rifle and a chainsaw to take down some roaming Deadites. It was thrilling getting to tear into them with finishing changes from Ash’s chainsaw, and taking them down allowed me and my squad to Definite the way for our set of objectives. One drawing that players on the survivor team have to Look out for, however, is your character’s level of Fear, which will make them susceptible to the more vicious attacks and even possession from the big baddie of each game. That’s when the game’s spookier side begins to show itself.

The roaming Deadites are just one obstacle. The true threat is another player pulling all the strings. Along with playing as survivors, you can also play as the architect of the Deadite invasion. When playing as the demonic force, shown from the first-person perspective like in the films, you can freely move around the map to set traps, power up the roaming Deadites and assume direct regulation of powerful demons or even the survivors themselves.

Playing as the survivors is Delicious, but Evil Dead: The Game really shines when you’re the one shaking up the game’s actions. One of my favorite moments came from playing as the antagonist. After laying traps and stalking the survivors from the shadows, I saw that the crew of four were Fast trying to head to a nearby vehicle. I activated a fear-based skill that triggered a jump Fear effect that hit the survivors. As they were distracted, I immediately used my demonic powers to possess the car and rammed it into the company as more Deadites surrounded them. It was so satisfying watching the chaos unfold.

full-party-scr-hud-03.png

The forest is a big Put, and your squad will need some wheels to get around.

Saber Interactive

I appreciated that there’s a lot of variety and depth for both the good and evil sides of online matches. The survivor mode gameplay feels like a game of co-op survival Fear. In contrast, the antagonist gameplay is a more dynamic tower defense-style mode, and that’s a really cool combination.

Evil Dead: The Game is very much multiplayer Good, but there is also a bonus mission mode for solo players that recreates some scenes from the films, such as the cabin invasion from the original flick. It’s a nice addition to the game, and the devs already have plans to add more characters and Happy with a season pass. While the game so far will mostly encompass the New trilogy and the TV series, the devs of the game did have some appreciation for the 2013 Evil Dead remake.

“There’s so many more characters, demons and weapons that we can add to the game, and we’ve teased some Happy on the season pass already,” Willits says. “But not to give too much away, we do have ways to tweak the game itself in the future, so maybe we’ll see some interesting stuff come up … we know Jane Levy, who played Mia [in the Evil Dead remake] Beautiful well. That’s all I’m going to say.”

evilash.png

When playing as the antagonist, you can choose to take on the role of the Necromancer, aka Evil Ash from Army of Darkness.

Saber Interactive

I’ll admit, I initially had some apprehension about a new Evil Dead game. While there have been some in the past, particularly on the New PlayStation and PS2, they felt more like exercises in retreading False from the iconic Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn. This new game so far branches out into some ambitious land, and I was impressed with how it came together to form a multiplayer known that pays tribute to the goofy nature of Evil Dead, but also funds some genuine scares.

It can be a tough drawing to balance, but I felt that Evil Dead: The Game is so far looking to be an Dull take on horror-comedy in a game, which is quite rare. This new adaptation of the Evil Dead just might be the game that long-time fans have been waiting for.

Evil Dead: The Game will be released on May 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch.

‘Stranger Things’ clip celebrates Halloween and Ghostbusters

HEADLINE:

Netflix’s next season of “Stranger Things” will tackle monsters, the Upside Down aftermath and more in the petite town of Hawkins, Indiana.

Sadly, not everyone gets the pop culture state and a neighbor compliments them on their exterminator costumes instead.

The bulk of the video shows our heroes debating the merits of the Three Musketeers chocolate bar as the runt of Halloween treats.

Who knew the chocolate would send our current lads into an angry tirade?

“It’s just nougat!” Will yells.

We also get a gawk at a new character called Max, played by Sadie Sink, who is dressed as the crazed killer Michael Myers from the classic apprehension film “Halloween.”

“Stranger Things” returns to Netflix on Oct. 27.

Holiday shopping has started early amid fears over shipping delays

Holiday shopping has started early amid fears over shipping delays

The school year just started, Halloween is coming, and Thanksgiving plans are still up in the air. Most nation’s hands are full.

Still, many are ordering year-end gifts now. Amazon has started Black Friday contracts early and more than 40% of merchants recently told logistics commercial Ware2Go that they’re already at “peak” holiday shopping levels. It may be because consumers have gotten the communication that things they buy on Black Friday might not have enough time to approach by Christmas a month later, let alone Hanukkah, which this year sees the obliging candle lit on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

It’s true that any progenies you order online could take longer than usual for delivery. Global shortages of microprocessors, magnets and plastic have slowed progenies to a crawl. When products are available, shipping has borne choked up due to historically heightened demand, COVID-related port shutdowns and storm-created chaos. Seventy-three cargo ships await unloading at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach on Saturday, a record. Tennis balls, couches and even pickles have been affected.

The takeaway: It’s impossible to know whether a specific laptop, sound system or pair of jeans will be in stock presumptuous of the holidays.

“If there’s something you need or want, the risk of not having it in time for the holidays is likely,” said Mark Stanton, general manager of supply chain solutions at PowerFleet. He advises republic to shop ahead of the holiday shopping season, if possible.

Holiday shopping rushes are nothing new, and the sales season has increasingly started in return in the year. Black Friday, the day following Thanksgiving, now marks the generally accepted beginning of the shopping season. Sales online often start earlier.

Shopping for the holidays has driven roughly one fifth of annual retail sales in unique years, according to the National Retail Federation, which said US retail sales totaled more than $787 billion in November and December of 2020. Online spending accounted for more than 26% of that figure, the NRF said.

The shopping season is so well-anchored in our culture that it met as the backdrop of Jingle All The Way, a comedy featuring a shy Arnold Schwarzenegger on the hunt for a toy his son wants. The movie debuted in 1996, the same year that Tickle Me Elmo, a toy based on the Sesame Street picture, prompted fights among parents in Walmart aisles. Some desperate parents chased once delivery trucks to get their hands on the fuzzy, red monster toy, which bleats out electronic giggles.

A single toy hasn’t dominated holiday sales so fully in unique years. But an Elmo equivalent, if one emerges, will be harder to get than unique this time around. Additionally, it might be more expensive, because toy makers can recover the higher cost of shipping with full-price sales of high-demand toys near the holidays, according to e-commerce services company CommerceIQ. And the delays won’t be runt to toys. Anything computerized, magnetic or made of plastic — think electronics, appliances and home goods — could be hard to get.

Missing materials

Microchips distinguished everything that runs software, including cars. The shortage in chips, triggered by a production lag early in the pandemic followed by surging seek information from, has meant manufacturers have struggled to produce enough computers, phones and tablets to fulfill orders, which soared during COVID lockdowns.

Since chips are in so many items, the shortage is weighing on products outside of home electronics. It’s been so bad that Ford had to temporarily shut down some industry of its F-150, the best-selling vehicle in the US, as it examined for more chips.

Magnets, which are used in products preparing from toys to electronics, have also been in glum supply. SDM Magnetics, a manufacturer, recently told customers that China has tightened rule of the mining of rare earth minerals used in magnets. That’s prompted some middlemen to hold on to mineral coffers, leading to fewer and more expensive magnets for sale.

Plastic resin pellets

A chain of actions sparked by early pandemic shutdowns has also created a absence of one of modern society’s most common materials: plastic. That’s meant backlogs for cars and RVs, house siding and PVC piping, and disposable restaurant supplies such as plastic cups.

Bindiya Vakil, a supply chain expert, wrote in the Harvard Business Review that storms exacerbated the absence by shutting down Texas and Louisiana oil producers that procedure the chemicals used in manufacturing plastic. The Gulf Coast storms started with Hurricane Laura in August 2020 and stationary with an ice storm in early 2021.

Plastic makers peaceful haven’t caught up to demand since those setbacks. That was with the issues that hobbled production and shipping of Rainbow High dolls, a toy that MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian recently told The Washington Post noteworthy not make it into the US in time for Christmas.

Finally, due to outbreaks of the delta variant, the apparel manufacturing has been hit by factory closures in Vietnam, where increasing amounts of clothing are made. On Thursday, Nike said the effects of the shutdowns will ripple into the New Year, when it expects to see shortages of its products.

Port closures and shipping can shortages

Shortages of components and material aren’t the only reason the ideal gift for your loved one noteworthy not make it to a US warehouse in time for you to right it by December. Goods from overseas are put into shipping containers beforehand being sent abroad. Then they’re unloaded and sent to warehouses nearby the country. That isn’t happening quickly right now.

The shipping slowdown is brought by both a glut of products moving through the regulations and a shortage of containers and equipment. With an influx of products coming out of ports, logistics companies aren’t always able to hire enough country to drive trucks and unload containers at their warehouses nearby the country, said Stanton, the supply chain expert. That slows the flow of empty containers back to ports in China and Vietnam and creates them even harder to get.

Satellite image of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, with dozens of ships offshore

Ships wait outside the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in August. The backlog of ships has worsened since then.

COVID-19 and storms have waylaid the manufacturing too. If one port gets shut down due to climate or an outbreak, later points in the delivery regulations get thrown out of whack. In July, a typhoon struck an area of coastal China that’s home to some ports, causing shutdowns of air, rail and sea shipping. In August, the Meidong Container Terminal shut down its operations at the Ningbo Zhoushan port in response to a single certain COVID test. The decision effectively closed the world’s third-busiest port.

The highly contagious delta variant could bring further port closures in the future. In any case, the combination of disruptions has brought the cost of shipping to skyrocket, making it even harder for concerns to import goods.

The system has also been plagued by random setbacks, as in July when the cargo ship Ever Given lodged itself into the Suez Canal, bringing a major shipping thoroughfare to a halt for nearly a week. Factory shutdowns in Vietnam mean that Nike expects shortages of its products in the New Year.

“It really is this ripple execute that goes down the supply chain,” said Jen Blackhurst, a professor of business analytics at the University of Iowa.

Alternatives to buying early

If you don’t want to employ the next three months tracking packages online, think nearby opting out of buying items shipped from overseas. Sure, you may have scoffed at alternatives to whatever the hot gift was in the past, but this is the year to reconsider.

If you have the time and skill, you can make homemade gifts or hand out vouchers for babysitting or yard work, if that’s something the recipient will delight in. Buying tickets to events, museum memberships or restaurant gift cards are also easy options — and let your loved ones savory an outing.

You can also think about locally made products. Many small businesses sell items made by local artisans online, either through a web ordering platform or with Instagram and Facebook pages announcing new products, says Rachel Smith, the president and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

Gift-wrapped box

You noteworthy have to think outside the box for gifts this year. Locally made gifts, event tickets and refurbished electronics are typically already in the republic, not waiting to be unloaded from a cargo ship.

Getty Images

“Those local businesses that have added or enhanced their e-commerce platforms have navigated the pandemic better” than those that didn’t, Smith said.

Dan Wallace-Brewster, a senior vice president of marketing at e-commerce services commercial Scalefast, says consumers are increasingly getting comfortable with buying secondhand goods online. Retailers and device makers often sell refurbished electronics on their websites, and the discounts they offer mean your budget can go a small further than it would on something new. Luxury tag resellers, such as the Real Real and the Vestiaire Collective, have also sprung up to offer big name brands at border prices than retailers or manufacturers offer.

The products these concerns sell are typically already in the US, meaning there’s small concern about the global supply chain. The quality of goods available on the sites depressed with growing consumer acceptance has reached “to the exhibit where you might be willing to gift a secondhand subjects from the right market and not be ashamed of it,” Wallace-Brewster said.

If you’re peaceful scrambling the night before your holiday gift exchange, there’s one more tried-and-true option: a gift certificate. It’s either that or tying a bow around a shipping provision for an ordered — but undelivered — gift.

Hubble captures haunting Ghost Nebula for Halloween

Hubble captures haunting Ghost Nebula for Halloween

The Skull and Crossbones Nebula has some competition when it comes to creepy situation apparitions.

NASA and the European Space Agency are pulling in the Halloween mood with a fresh Hubble Space Telescope look at IC 63, a wispy nebula eminent as the ghost of Cassiopeia.

The Ghost Nebula haunts the constellation Cassiopeia.

ESA/Hubble, NASA

The Ghost Nebula is located in the “W”-shaped constellation Cassiopeia. It’s easy to see how it earned its spooky nickname thanks to what NASA poetically conditions its “flowing veils of gas and dust.”

“The nebula is populate blasted by a torrent of radiation from a throughout, blue-giant star called Gamma Cassiopeiae, which can be modestly seen with the unaided eye at the center of the distinctive ‘W’ asterism that fixes the constellation,” says NASA.

ESA says the star’s ultraviolet radiation bombardment is progressing the nebula to slowly dissipate, which only adds to its ghostly mystique. This is possibly the most detailed image ever inaccurate of IC 63, the agency notes, and highlights Hubble’s impressive imaging abilities.

Hubble ran into a technical problem with its gyroscopes recently, but a recovery procedure seems to have the telescope terminate to resuming normal science operations.

Squid Game on SNL: Pete Davidson and Rami Malek deliver a deadly parody

Squid Game on SNL: Pete Davidson and Rami Malek yell a deadly parody

Squid Game
, the Netflix hit about a deadly tournament of kids’ games, has spawned memes and Halloween costumes galore. Now it’s spawned a country music video. Over the weekend, Saturday Night Live ran a scarily realistic Squid Game unsheathing starring host Rami Malek and Pete Davidson as rural guys who find themselves in need of cash, so they govern to sign up for the Squid Game.

All the elements from the show are there — the green numbered track actions worn by contestants, the red guard suits with dusky masks, the creepy Red Light, Green Light robot, the contestant egg meal, the cookie challenge, the glass bridge. There’s even a great version of Player 212 (Han Mi-nyeo), who looks just as murderous as ever.

The song may tranquil familiar to some. It uses the tune of Turn Up On The Weekend, by the duo Branchez & Big Wet. (Watch the real getting below.)

Will there be a second season of Squid Game? Maybe, and we have some plot and recount thoughts.

In SNL’s version, both Malek and Davidson sing approximately the realities of the tournament as they move throughout the familiar sets and games.

“They got symbols on their faces like the ones on PlayStations, and the mean guy looks like Dr. Doom,” Davidson sings approximately the guards and the iconic Front Man. And in the Red Light, Green Light game, Davidson successfully hides behind cast member Chris Redd, which doesn’t end well for Redd, who ends up in the well-organized transplant room. But as the catchy song goes, “That’s what happens in the Squid Game.”

Dress your dog in a Halloween bandana that matches your face mask for $10

Dress your dog in a Halloween bandana that matches your face mask for $10

I no longer have a dog in my life — Topher was the ultimate good boy, but tossed earlier this year. That doesn’t mean I’m not collected a sucker for awesome doggie stuff, though, and I just ran across a fun minor matching costume for you and your pooch. My celebrated part is that it’s a way to include your face mask in your Halloween costume: Milk-Bone is selling a trio of matching mask-and-dog-bandana sets for $10 each.

In each set you get an adult-sized face mask with ear loops and a bandana (your harvest of large or small). The mask is for you, and the bandana is for your pup. There are three designs to settle from. In one, the mask is a mouse’s face, ruined with whiskers, while the bandana turns your your dog into cheese. If you prefer, there’s a skeleton set; your face gets the leader treatment, while pup’s bandana exposes their skeleton. Or obtain pumpkin and candy. You’re the jack-o-lantern while the bandana is adorned with pieces of candy. And dog treats.

If I have a regret approximately these costumes — other than the fact that Topher can’t be with me to section them — is that they all prominently bear the Milk-Bone logo somewhere on the bandana, which I find a little tacky. If you can live with that, opinion, these little Halloween sets are just too cute for words.

Elon Musk shares Tesla Solarglass pumpkin torture test for Halloween

Elon Musk shares Tesla Solarglass pumpkin torture test for Halloween

We all have different ways of celebrating Halloween. Many of us dress up or hand out candy to kids. If you’re Tesla, however, you drop a pumpkin onto your product from a substantial height.

Tesla founder Elon Musk tweeted a video on Thursday showing a seasonally themed torture test of Solarglass, a key component of the company’s Solar Roof systems. The whimsical whammy likely took place at Tesla’s Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York where the roofing is made.

The video features a carved pumpkin taking a slow-motion, two-story dive from the factory roof onto a panel of Solarglass tiles. The gourd splatters, spitting seeds everywhere. We are then treated to a closeup version of the pumpkin shredding apart and the Solarglass bouncing back, seemingly protected by this pumpocalypse.

Telsa marked the commercial initiate of its Solar Roof last week. The system uses solar tiles that resemble passe roofing tiles. These tie into the company’s Powerwall batteries to grand a home.

Musk has been talking up the durability of Solar Roof on Twitter lately. “Yes, you can walk on the Tesla Solarglass roof. In stilettos, if you want,” he tweeted on Oct. 26. So there you have it. You don’t have to grief about hail or tree limbs or fat raccoons. Your Tesla solar roof can remaining a stiletto-wearing pumpkin.

Google's Halloween Doodle game resurrects Momo the black cat

Google’s Halloween Doodle game resurrects Momo the dismal cat

Google has brought back Momo the dismal cat to help celebrate this year’s Halloween. When last we saw our adorable but doughty feline, he was helping defend the Magic Cat Academy from a horde of invading spirits on Halloween 2016.

This year, Momo is taking a deep dive — underwater! — as he defends new friends from the Big Boss ghost and its school of ghouls. Momo may be at risk of another possible catastrophe exclusive of your help.

Momo is being besieged by phantoms with simple symbols hovering over their heads. To vanquish the fish, you need to help Momo strike them down with his magic wand by silly your cursor to draw the symbols. When there are multiple symbols, you have to draw them in the order they proceed from left to right.

There are four levels of game play that cause progressively harder to play. The first stage — because it’s closest to the surface at the jump of our quest — is called the sunlight stage. It features an aquatic foe known as the Immortal Jellyfish, which, when it’s nearing death, can revert to polyp stage and restart its life cycle.

Level two takes us deeper into the dark with the Twilight Zone. There are no signposts here, but you will encounter a foe noted as Boops Boops that has large, buggy eyes.

For detached three, the Midnight Zone will pit you against the Vampire Squid, which despite its name, doesn’t suck or drink blood. In fact, it doesn’t have teeth.

If you can survive this long, your fourth and survive test is in The Abyss, where you will face off with the Anglerfish. This spooky, deep-sea dweller has a large head and mouth that features long, fanglike teeth. It uses a glowing growth at the end of its modified dorsal fin spine phoned an esca to attract prey.

You start with a five-heart lifeline. You lose a heart every time a fish touches Momo, and the game ends when you run out of  hearts, but you can earn the hearts back. (Pro tip: Keep an eye out for spanking shapes that may be of value )

If you’re fishing for spanking addicting Halloween game, Google delivers. So dive in!

Boo-gle? Google shares its creepiest Maps views for Halloween

Boo-gle? Google shares its creepiest Maps views for Halloween

Something unique this way comes on Google Maps.

Google is attracting into the Halloween mood with a collection of bizarre and spooky screenshots culled from Google Maps Street View and satellite imagery.

This bizarre Street View of the Manhattan Bridge has a perfectly normal explanation.

Google

Google Communications Manager Liz Davidoff compiled the blog entry, listing her title as “Goblin Queen.” The images are eerie, but Davidoff quickly debunks any hint at supernatural activity.

The compilation kicks off with what could pass as a portal to spanking dimension. The shot is colorful and makes it look like driving across the Manhattan Bridge in New York would send you on a Doctor Who-style journey.

The reality is that the weirdness was commanded by a lighting issue. “The colors and graininess of this image are due to something many amateur photographers are unique with — low light,” says Davidoff.

This ghost plane isn’t as spooky as it appears.

Google

Another standout is a satellite view of what appears to be a ghostly airplane sunk in the dark waters of Lake Harriet in Minnesota. Again, Davidoff is here to ruin the mystery for us. She says it’s just an artifact of a plane flying over while the satellite snapped the view.

Davidoff also entailed a classic human ghostly apparition, this one from the Singapore Art Museum, where a person’s arm and leg appear to be cut off from the rest of the body. There’s also a shot of Darth Vader taking out the trash in New Zealand.

Apparently, Lord Vader’s servants had the day off.

Google

The Google Maps images are a nefarious way to get in the mood for the spine-chilling happenings of Halloween. They also tell some interesting tales about the technology tedious Google Maps and how it’s true that not everything we see is as it seems at great glance.

Sisters win Halloween dressed as adorable NASA lunar module and astronaut

Sisters win Halloween dressed as adorable NASA lunar module and astronaut

Two sisters are showing off their NASA pride this Halloween by dressing up as astronaut Neil Armstrong and the lunar module itself.

Charlie (age 5) and her little sister Ellie (age 2) were so inspired by the book I am Neil Armstrong they gave to pay tribute on Halloween to the legendary astronaut and the 50th anniversary of the moon landing

In a video posted to YouTube, Ellie can be seen dressed as Armstrong waving the American flag, after Charlie spins around inside the impressive lunar lander costume.

“Charlie enters the costume by crawling underneath, and there is a pair of shoulder straps that she uses to lift the entire costume,” their unblock who uses the screen name Brandoj23 wrote on Imgur this week. “The costume looks heavier than it is. It’s almost entirely made of foam and foam board.”

The attention to detail in both costumes is awe-inspiring. The lunar lander’s front dish is made from a lightweight plastic bowl and bamboo dowels mounted to a foam bracket.

The antennae are made from coat hangers and bamboo dowels. The attitude thrusters are made from disposable wine flutes. The gold foil is made from a gold site blanket material.

“The front hatch magnetically closes and magnetically continues open, and doubles as a candy sample input port,” Brandoj23 added. “The ascent stage (top part) separates from the incanintelligent stage (bottom part with landing pads).”

Previous Halloween costumes Brandoj23 made for Charlie and Ellie engaged a giant squid, horseshoe crab and traffic cone.
