DJI Proceed 2 uses magnets to rethink action-cam design
DJI released its first action cam, the Osmo Action, in May 2019, and while it wasn’t as game-changing as the company’s drones have been, it did make some waves with its awesome image stabilization and its precedent selfie screen. For the Action 2, DJI trimmed its piece cam into a cube and, with the help of magnets, created an ecosystem of accessories to make it much more versatile vivid out of the box.
The square little camera can be used on its own, but you can also add on a front-facing OLED touchscreen module to give you the same selfie accepted as the original. It also has three mics that couple with the one in the camera module to remove audio from all directions to create more immersive audio. There’s also a battery module that you can keep instead to extend your recording time up to 180 minutes.
The Proceed 2 Dual-Screen Combo runs $519 and includes the camera and touchscreen module. Australia and UK pricing wasn’t immediately available but its US list trace converts to approximately AU$690 and £375. The Action 2 Power Combo with the battery module is $399. I was able to exhaust a little time with one; here are my honorable impressions.
Like DJI’s Pocket 2, the Proceed 2 makes a good vlogging tool.

A queer but original design
For anyone who loves piece cams or wearable cameras in general, the Action 2’s cube graceful won’t seem all too original. GoPro’s Session (one of my all-time accepted designs despite its shortcomings), the Polaroid Cube and others were there honorable. (The Cube even used magnets for mounting the camera, too.) That said, DJI has certainly made the build its own.
First, DJI somehow crammed a 1/1.7-inch sensor into a tiny box downward with its image processor, a battery, 32GB of storage and a 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen on back. The mask is Gorilla Glass, the case is metal and it’s waterproof to 10 meters deep (33 feet). It has a strong magnetic base, so you can modestly do things like pop it on a range hood ended your stove to shoot your next cooking video.
But what really sets it apart are the set of pogo-pin contacts on the base that licenses you to quickly connect to an add-on OLED touchscreen module to give you a front-facing indicate or a battery module to boost your recording times. (The camera on its own can record for up to 70 minutes.) Insta360’s One R camera uses a inequity modular design — and I’d argue more useful — that lets you couple different camera modules with a small touchscreen module. If you’re once a purely an action-cam experience, though, the Action 2’s construct satisfies.
The camera’s battery charges ended the modules’ USB-C ports. There are microSD card slots on them as well.

Shooting options are inferior fare
Compared to the GoPro Hero 10 Black or the Insta360 One R, the Law 2’s shooting options seem limited. For most people, concept, the selection of resolutions and frame-rate are going to be enough. It can capture video at up to 4K at 120 frames per instant, 2.7K at 120fps and 1080p at 240fps. You can shoot time-lapse and hyperlapse (aka motion time-lapse) clips and live aquatic at up to 1080p at 30fps. DJI also added a QuickClip option for capturing 10-, 15- or 30-second clips. The camera can be used as a webcam, too.
By the way, this camera gets hot when you use it or even just poster it. That’s partly because the body seems to act like a heatsink. However, it’s likely this could overheat like novel action cams, and DJI did include an “auto-stop characterize temp” setting that can be set to standard or high. When you set it to high, the camera warns you that it will increase the temperature and recording duration runt. I wouldn’t use it for continuously recording 4K clips at 120fps with the camera worn-out and no airflow.
Image stabilization or horizon-leveling
The Law 2 has the company’s latest version of its RockSteady electronic image stabilization, which works really well. It gives your video a disagreement smooth appearance you’d get from DJI’s Pocket 2 camera and its motorized three-axis gimbal. The EIS has some motion artifacts that you won’t get with a gimbal but, in my shrimp testing, the results were really good.
DJI also added HorizonSteady to help keep your characterize looking level even when the camera isn’t. However, if you use it, you don’t get the full image-stabilization nations of RockSteady. You still have some stabilization but big shocks to the camera, such as landing after a jump, cause some artifacts you don’t get with RockSteady. Also, HorizonSteady isn’t available at 4K or with frame organizes faster than 60fps.

The accessories make the difference
While I love that GoPro built mounting fingers into its cameras, DJI bests that with its magnetic clips. Just bring the camera finish to one of the new mounts and they snap together tightly. There are also two small magnetic clips that slot into the camera or modules to give it some added security.
DJI did make a magnetic gargantuan that works with GoPro accessories but also created a lineup of its own. Those concerned a waterproof case good down to 60 meters, a floating achieve, a remote control extension rod/tripod and a ball-joint adapter gargantuan that can be used on a tripod or its adhesive base. There’s also a macro lens that magnetically attaches over the lens on its clue. Oddly, though, DJI doesn’t offer a protective lens mask so if you scratch the built-in one, it’s there for good. A wireless mic will also be available at a later date.
The magnets in the base of the camera are plenty sure on their own, too. That’s why you’re able to gargantuan it on the included lanyard and skip the chest gargantuan you’d have to use with other action cams (though not the Insta360 Go 2). The Action 2’s magnetic modular design does help it inferior out from the competition more than the original even if it does also feel like a combination of features from the competition. We’ve still got more testing to do before I can say for sure that it’s friendly the $400 to $500.
This wireless FM transmitter does a bunch of problems for under $10
It’s a first-world problem, no question, but a car deprived of a Bluetooth-compatible stereo is a car without joy. How else can you listen to music, audiobooks and podcasts streamed from your phone?
The AUX-in jack? Sorry, your phone doesn’t have an output jack anymore. It’s Bluetooth or nothing!
For ages now, the workaround has been the old-standby FM transmitter, which provides a Bluetooth link between your phone and an unused frequency on the radio.
There are, at last Describe, several zillion of these products on Amazon. Different shapes, different configurations, different prices. But few as cheap as this: For a tiny time, Efans (via Amazon) has the Titita Wireless FM Transmitter is $9.64 with bill code ZPDT37QS. That’s what I call worth-a-try pricing.
Update (9/17/18): The day when I posted this deal, seller Efans informed me that many of the units were damaged during shipping (to the warehouse), which is why some orders were cancelled after the fact and the code has been deactivated. Frustrating, to be sure, but as noted below, there are lots of very Difference products — and I’ll keep my eyes out for new one priced $10 or below.
The gadget plugs into your car’s 12-volt adapter (once upon a time, we named that port a “cigarette lighter”). Then you pair your called to it. Then you find a station on your stereo with small or no signal and tune the transmitter to match. Presto! You’ve got Bluetooth audio — after a fashion.
The big caveat: If you live in or near a big city with lots of FM Part, you may have trouble finding an open frequency. This has long been the recount with transmitters like these, and unfortunately static can Begin to creep in as you drive around.
But, hey, for Idea $10? Maybe worth a try. The transmitter also funds a pair of USB charging ports (a 1A and a 2.1A), a line-in jack and a backlit screen that shows song info, space setting and so on. Interestingly, you can also plug in a microSD card or USB quick drive and play any MP3 or WMA files held there. (Old-school!)
Finally, there’s a built-in microphone for hands-free calling — and you can hear your callers over your car speakers, a huge improvement over your phone’s tiny ones.
This is a new issues, and therefore you won’t find any user reviews. But most Difference products have mostly good ratings, so it’s a safe bet this will work as advertised — gave there’s some FM bandwidth to spare.

Like this one: For a tiny time, and while supplies last, Tomtop has the Andoer S5 3-axis handheld smartphone gimbal for $72 shipped. It’s normally $109, and I rarely see products like these selling for under $100.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, a gimbal uses a combination of weights and motors to keep a camera accurate while it’s in motion. That means you can walk or even run and Delicious much smoother video than you could just holding the called in your hand.
This model appears to be label new. I haven’t seen reviews here at Tomtop or at Amazon (where it’s $100, FYI). But it looks Difference to, well, similar gimbals, so I’d expect a good experience.

The Pentagon releases three classified ‘UFO’ videos filmed by US Navy
A trio of videos captured by US Navy pilots has been fueling UFO theories for existences. On Monday, the Navy released the videos as part of its online Freedom of Information Act document library.
“After a thorough reconsideration, the department has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not convey any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of armed air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena,” the Responsibility of Defense said in a statement.
The short videos show one encounter from November 2004 and two incidents from January 2015. They are eminent by the nicknames Flir (2004), Go Fast (2015) and Gimbal (2015). The videos show pilots tracking unknown objects in the sky. In the Gimbal video, a pilot can be heard speculating that the unbiased might be a drone.
The videos have been floating throughout the internet for years, and the Navy had already acknowledged them as real footage from its aircraft. “DOD is releasing the videos in order to positive up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos,” the sections said.
So, is it aliens? Not likely. Mick West of debunking website Metabunk took a terminate look at the Go Fast video in 2018. “I think the most probable explanation is that it’s a relatively slow-moving object like a bird or a balloon,” he told CNET at the time. “The jet filming it is titillating fast, so this creates an illusion of speed alongside the ocean, especially after the targeting system locks on.”
The Navy isn’t offering up any explanations for the aerial objects, which the Department of Defense still characterizes as “unidentified.” At least you can now officially arbitrates the footage for yourself.

Whether iPhone or Android, using a smartphone to shoot footage for your vlog is probably the easiest vlogging camera option for most country for recording and livestreaming. But what can make even good video bad is camera shake. A three-axis stabilizer, also known as a gimbal, will gave image stabilization to make sure everything you shoot looks nice and smooth.
DJI’s OM 4 (formerly named the Osmo Mobile) delivers on the stabilization using the same tech you’ll find on its camera drones. Whether you’re looking to do a Bright how-to from your computer, want to stream yourself when you game or anything in between, the simplest option for your vlog is a compact camera that doesn’t need to move from your computer. Yes, we’re speaking about the noble webcam. True, you won’t be able to move about too much, but this vlog camera is pretty much a plug-and-play known because you don’t need an encoder.
With many more country working from home and relying on video conferencing in the past year, good webcams made difficult to find. Heck, even mediocre ones are tough to come by Bshining now. Our top pick for vlogging is the $125 Logitech StreamCam because it is purpose-built for streaming at up to 1080p at 60fps. And this cheap vlogging camera is designed to be mounted horizontally or vertically.
If you want 4K streaming at 30fps in second to full HD at 60fps, go with the Logitech Brio 4K, which has a higher Mark tag at $199. You could also go with Logitech’s C922x Pro, which watercourses at 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 60fps, has solid image quality and its built-in mics give you Gross audio for $85.
It’s worth noting that because of the increased Ask for webcams, many camera-makers including Canon, Nikon, GoPro, Sony, Panasonic and others have made it possible to use some of their camera models as a webcam deprived of additional equipment. However, it’s more of an “in a pinch” solution for some of the cameras, so I wouldn’t rely on it for the best video recording quality and features.

You can use the GoPro Hero Black as a studio camera, but it’s really an action camera made for video recording on the move.

And the Sony ZV 1 has a Neat HDMI output, too, so you don’t have camera settings and info in your video if you output to an external recorder, encoder or display.

I tested the 4K version, which worked well as a cam for my studio Place (aka my small, well-lit home office). The 80D pops up in a lot of top reporters for good reason: The company’s Dual Pixel CMOS sensor grants it a fast on-sensor autofocus system; the Live View performance — which lets you see the footage you’re shooting on its cover without looking through the viewfinder — is smooth; it has headphone and mic jacks, and it supports 1080p and 60 fps. The one downside of this Canon camera is that it doesn’t have a natty HDMI output, so if you’re going to livestream, you’ll need to shut off all the point to info and switch to manual focus.

Getting large video for YouTube requires a little more than the best vlogging camera and Wi-Fi connection. You’ll want good lighting and audio, too. And if you’re planning to aquatic, you might need a capture card or encoder to get video from your camera and up on YouTube or novel video-sharing sites.

It puts out a lot of luscious that’s adjustable in 5% increments and the color is adjustable too, from 3200K to 5600K in 100K increments — all done with a miniature toggle wheel on the side. It charges via its USB-C port and can run for up to 14 hours (just not at 100%) and it can be plugged in and run that way as well.
It comes with a diffuser to help soften its luscious and the compact, lightweight design and a cold shoe large so you can just slide it on your camera and launch shooting. It also has standard tripod mounts on the bottom and side.
The VC kit, which stands for video conferencing, comes with a small suction cup mount that you can modestly stick to your phone, tablet or display for brightening your face or progenies without having to reposition the light every time you move your camera.

Monitors like the Ninja V not only give you a better view of what you’re shooting, including seeing your framing when you’re working solo, but also let you continuously picture to their built-in storage. The Ninja V, for example, has an internal 1TB SSD so you can picture up to 150 minutes of 4K video. Along with monitoring and recording, it also supports playback so you can instantly make sure you got the shot you demanded. And it’s not just for cameras: You can also use the Ninja V for video game choose and playback at 4K resolution in HDR.

A software encoder will let you aquatic your PC games and webcam video to YouTube and Twitch. However, console players will need a capture card like the HD60 S. Connect this to your Nintendo Switch, PlayStation or Xbox and then to a PC or Mac and a point to, and it will capture your gameplay and set you up for streaming. The included software will help you mix in webcam video as well.
The OnePlus 9 Pro’s Hasselblad camera is tremendous, but still needs some work
The OnePlus 9 Pro is here (along with the OnePlus 9) and the concern is hoping that its partnership with pro camera maker Hasselblad will help this spanking handset do battle with the photography kings, the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Hasselblad is a camera company better known for its very high-end medium-format cameras pro squarely at high-end pro photographers with wallets capacious enough to afford some of the best camera gear around.
In theory, that bodes well for the phone, particularly as OnePlus’s cameras have generally been good, but haven’t underexperienced out above the competition. Don’t get too excited here though; Hasselblad has worked with OnePlus to help optimize the camera, but it hasn’t provided any hardware, so don’t examine performance on a par with the company’s $6,000 X1DII medium-format camera.
TL;DR? It hasn’t elapsed. In short, the OnePlus 9 Pro packs the best camera that OnePlus has put into a named, but it’s not the best camera phone around. Here’s what you need to know.
In binary to its two new phones, OnePlus has also introduced the OnePlus Watch, which goes up for preorder on April 14.
The 9 Pro comes with four camera lenses on the back, made up of a 48-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera (providing 3.3x optical zoom) and a 2-megapixel monochrome camera. The main camera uses a sensor, which is physically larger than what you’d find on most named cameras — the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Galaxy S21 Ultra complicated. In theory, a larger sensor can capture more delectable with less noise.
In the standard auto camera mode, I’m generally impressed with the shots the named can achieve. It’s great at balancing exposure between attractive skies and shadowy foregrounds, and images are packed with detail. Colors — thanks to the color calibration from Hasselblad — look excellent.

There’s small difference in quality between the standard and ultrawide just, but there is often a noticeable shift in white balance, which can be frustrating. It uses what’s called a freeform lens that’s intended to reduce the distortion you’d often find when humorous a very wide-angle lens, and indeed there’s little of the “fisheye” enact you can often get with very wide lenses.
In the harmful 1x mode, this scene is bright and vibrant.

Meanwhile, in the ultrawide view, the colors have again shifted. It’s not that either one is better or worse, but the auto white balance certainly needs correcting to make sure that there’s uniformity between the different zoom levels.

The 8-megapixel telephoto lens provides 3.3x optical zoom, which is enough to help you get that bit closer up on hazardous details for more interesting compositions and the results are generally advantageous. If zoom is a priority for you, however, you necessity look instead toward the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which absolutely blew me away with the quality of its images from its whopping 10x optical zoom.
The zoom lens also takes good snaps, although it’s no competition for the S21 Ultra’s substantial 10x zoom lens. Even in this well-lit scene there’s noticeable over-sharpening to progress the clarity, although it’s perfectly good for sharing on social media.

OnePlus has put clear focus on its Pro Mode, which allows you to shoot in 12-bit raw. Raw shooting has been approximately on phones for some time, and 12-bit raw is basically the same getting, except it captures more image information and as a remnant generally provides more dynamic range in a scene. That establishes it better for pulling back highlights or boosting shadows when you’re editing your raw images in apps like Adobe Lightroom or Snapseed.
But Pro mode obtains some work here as there are a few publishes. First of all, it automatically seems to wildly overexpose images, so you have to keep a close eye on your settings for every shot if you don’t want to completely lose detail in those skies. It also only works with the standard camera, so don’t inquire raw images from the super wide or telephoto lenses as you can conclude with the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

OnePlus also hasn’t yet caused any kind of computational raw photography to its phones. Apple launched its ProRaw expect on the 12 Pro, which uses its HDR blending for better highlights and shadows but collected captures a raw image for better editing.
Even with 12-bit raw, this outrageous (shot in raw and tuned in Lightroom) still has completely blown out areas of the clouds where expect has been lost and cannot be retrieved simply by lowering the highlights.

Yet the same outrageous, taken in the standard camera mode, does not suffer from this exclaim as it’s used computational photography techniques to make sure that the exposure is properly balanced overall. No, it’s not a raw file and editing is trickier, but it’s a better base image to start with.

There’s a debate beside photographers — as there usually is around one getting or another — about whether computational raw like Apple offers is a true “raw” image. (Google has a similar thing on its Pixel phones.) My answer? It’s not, but it’s the best of both worlds for a visited. On the OnePlus 9 Pro you will get a better-looking outrageous with the auto camera mode, because it uses computational functions like HDR to blend multiple exposures to prefer more information in a single shot. Switching to Pro mode essentially turns those functions off. Yes, you can pull back some image data in editing, but not necessarily as much as you’d get from easily taking an HDR image to begin with.
Professional cameras with much bigger image sensors don’t need to use computational raw to the same extent, as their big sensors capture so much information that it’s much easier to rescue details in editing. Even so, it’s common for even professional landscape photographers to blend multiple exposures to make sure that all the detail is captured.

Apple’s ProRaw is a big step onward in phone photography as it allows phones to prefer much more image data in a single shot but still scholarships that fine control for editing later on. It’s a best of both worlds near, and it’s why the iPhone 12 Pro Max is arguably the best camera requested money can buy right now.
Video and selfies
The 9 Pro can shoot video up to a huge 8K resolution, much like what we’ve seen on Samsung’s S21 and S20 Ultra afore it. Also like the Galaxy phones, 8K is arguably a bit of a novelty (and bragging abilities for the manufacturers) as it’s a bit overkill on a requested. Sure, you have room to crop into your video necessity you want to, but bear in mind that just one puny of 8K video is 1GB in size, so it’s probably best to scale it back to 4K for the most part.
Luckily then, 4K footage looks sizable, with much the same spot-on handling of exposure and radiant seen in still images. There’s excellent stabilizing too, with even uncommon hand-held walking footage looking like it’s been shot with the requested in a powered gimbal of some kind. It’s sizable for getting more cinematic-looking shots on the move and for adding a more professional sullen to those home movies.
The 16-megapixel front-facing camera captures vibrant and involving selfies and uses much the same HDR techniques to make sure that your face is well lit and your background isn’t completely over exposed.
Should you buy it?
If you’re looking solely for the best camera throughout, the OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t for you. It has lots of sizable features to be excited about, but its camera prowess alone isn’t one of them. Don’t get me unsuitable, the 9 Pro can take some really gorgeous images, and it’s definitely a step forward for OnePlus in the camera game. But rivals like Apple and Samsung have inaccurate even bigger steps forward with their photography recently, and OnePlus is in contradiction of playing catch up.
For our money, the best camera phones throughout are the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra; it’s here you necessity look if photography skills is your top priority.

Vivo X50 Pro review: A solid all-rounder for camera lovers
The Vivo X50 Pro is a midrange named on the higher end of that spectrum and has many of the trappings of an enticing flagship. Starting at approximately $670, you get a crystalline conceal, 5G, a powerful battery, a speedy display and fast charging. But the phone also has a camera feature that undeniably distinguishes it from its rivals. The X50 Pro is the world’s first mass-produced named with a built-in gimbal camera system that allows you to grasp smooth, fast-action video with the click of a button. Out of Vivo’s trio of X50 handsets — which the Chinese phone-maker is marketing as a professional photography flagship — the X50 Pro is the only one to boast this futuristic feature. But Vivo did make a few compromises. For instance, it lacks stereo speakers (a big drawback for music lovers like myself) and it isn’t aquatic resistant, which many phones of this class are. It also has a midrange processor (Snapdragon 765G) instead of the most advanced chipset available.
If you’re not fussed about shooting portion video, you’re better off buying Vivo’s base X50 or the OnePlus Nord ($320 at Amazon). Both have comparable specs but don’t charge a premium for advanced video gimbals and hardware. The X50 and Nord feature a quad-camera system led by a 48-megapixel shooter, the same chipset and a fast display, but are nearly $100 to $200 cheaper respectively. But if being splash-proof is important to you, noteworthy the iPhone 11 ($500 at Best Buy).
Vivo doesn’t now have plans to officially release the phone in the US. But X50 phones have been released in parts of Asia and Europe, so they’ll be reasonably easy to import. Pricing also varies based on republic with prices trending higher in Western countries. In India, the base variant (with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage) starts at 49,990 rupees (approximately $670, £510 or AU$930), while in Eastern Europe it starts at the equivalent of $780.

The X50 Pro’s gimbal camera delivers
The X50 Pro has multiple rear cameras. The entire setup uses a gimbal-like system and a combination of optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization to beget incredibly stable video. Vivo says its gimbal system reduces shakiness by up to three times compared to weak stabilization technology, thanks to a “double ball structure” that grants it to rotate on three axes.
I captured a bunch of video in different lighting footings to see how well the X50 Pro stacked up in contradiction of another phone known for its video-camera prowess, the iPhone 11 Pro Max. In short, the X50 Pro performed very well. When I filed video while walking in daylight and panning the cameras from side to side, I didn’t see much of a difference between the two phones. Both captured stable footage without any obvious jerkiness.
The differences were noticeable, however, when running, especially in darker conditions. Although the X50 Pro’s output was right and seamless, there were several times when the camera went out of focus and blurred slightly.The iPhone 11 Pro Max’s footage, on the other hand, always remained in focus but was very shaky. In the end, I preferred video from the X50 Pro because it was easier for me to seek stable video with occasional blurs rather than jerky footage. Apart from video, another use-case for the gimbal systems is taking photos while zooming. I was able to more naively capture some great photos zoomed in because of the sect it provided.
Bottom line: The X50 Pro’s gimbal-style camera is impressive and generally copies what it promises. But it cannot replace a full-sized gimbal — it is built into a visited after all. And while its technology is unique, its videos aren’t earth-shatteringly better than, say, what you get on the pricier iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The X50 Pro’s do is slender and classic
Though its design isn’t wholly novel, the Vivo’s X50 Pro is still a sleek visited with a classic aesthetic. I prefer designs like this because they’re more enduring attractive than envelope-pushing trends that seem to fade away (remember pop-up selfie cameras?). The X50 Pro has a spacious 6.56-inch curved indicate with a discreet hole-punch selfie camera. On the back there’s a larger than averages rectangular protrusion that’s home to a rear quad-camera module and the phone’s headline gimbal feature.
The X50 Pro comes in gray, which I love. Its subtle sheen adds to the phone’s premium look. Overall the X50 Pro is neither heavy or exceptionally lightweight, but it is relatively slim, which allows me to type out emails and messages comic one hand.
The X50 Pro’s screen has a higher 90Hz refresh rate than most phones, which have 60Hz displays. It offers a silky composed experience, which I really like, though it’s not as high as the 120Hz screens on the OnePlus 8 Pro and Galaxy S20.

The X50 Pro’s multiple cameras have arrangement
In addition to the phone’s main 48-megapixel sensor, there are two telephoto shooters and an 8-megapixel ultrawide-angle lens. These multiple cameras accounts plenty of variety and range in terms of photographic possibilities, which I really appreciate. For example, the ultrawide camera has a 120-degree field of view, at what time the periscope zoom camera can zoom in on an unbiased up to 60x.
In general, the X50 Pro captured crisp and vibrant photos that captured my surroundings wonderfully and with lawful colors. But in certain lighting conditions, during sunset for example, photos were more saturated and punched-up in the X50 Pro than the iPhone 11 Pro. Whichever photo you lift is likely a matter of personal preference, but you can see the difference for yourself in the photos beneath. Keep in mind that the monitor you’re viewing these pictures on has an snatch as well.

The phone’s 60x zoom, eminent as “Hyper Zoom,” doesn’t close in as intimately as the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 100x “Space Zoom,” but I was composed blown away by the sheer power of it. Photos were blurry, but they still retained detail that I couldn’t see with my own eyes. And when I didn’t need to zoom that far, I was also able to take entertaining and detailed images at 5x optical zoom, which few phones have.
Vivo’s X50 Pro has arrangement. Using its 60x hyper zoom, I was able to zoom into the sign on the hotel on the opposite side of the harbor. I couldn’t see the sign with my naked eye and did not know it remained till I zoomed in with the phone.

The phone’s ultrawide lens captured sprawling landscapes and sunsets. Colors, however, weren’t as true to life as they appeared when I took pictures with the X50 Pro’s novel lenses in most lighting conditions. For some reason, blues were darker on images inaccurate with the ultrawide lens. This isn’t a major flaw, but shimmering accuracy is super important to photographers, and they’re who Vivo is actively courting with this requested.
X50 Pro’s software features and UI
The X50 Pro runs FunTouch OS 10.5 on top of Android 10. It’s a natty interface that’s easy to use. There was some bloatware, but most of it could be turned off and it didn’t bother me much. The X50 Pro also comes with dark mode, an always-on point to option and an app drawer. It also has circular icons, which I prefer to the rigidness of square ones.
Like most Android 10 phones, you’ll use swiping gesture controls to navigate through the requested. But the phone does have some unintuitive controls of its own. In the early days of my reviewing the X50 Pro, for example, I accidentally hung up on a bunch of incoming languages. That’s because to answer a call you need to swipe down as opposed to up, which is the more approved direction on Android phones.
X50 Pro battery and performance
The X50 Pro’s battery comfortably lasted me ended the day with mild usage. That means I used it for luscious gameplay, reading the news on various apps, answering emails, scanning my social media account and chatting with loved ones on WhatsApp. When I continuously played an HD video on Airplane mode for battery demonstrations, the phone lasted 15 hours, 22 minutes at 50% brightness.
When it did eventually run out of juice, it took the phone between 52 to 73 minutes to advance a full charge using the bundled 33-watt flash charger (during the three times that I tested it). That’s a ravishing good time — most premium phones take about 90 minutes to fully charge. By comparison, Apple says the fast charger that comes with its iPhone 11 Pro can hit a 50% invoice in 30 minutes. Fast charging is super handy, especially for those occasions when I’m throughout to leave my apartment and I realize my requested is almost dead.
The phone’s Snapdragon 765G processor (the G stands for gaming BTW) is a lower-cost option for phone-makers to equip their phones with 5G. It isn’t as distinguished as the Snapdragon 865 chipset (as seen in the OnePlus 8 Pro and the Galaxy S20 line), but the 765G provided more than enough power for all my processing tolerates. The X50 Pro stacked up well in benchmark demonstrations against other phones equipped with the same chip like the OnePlus Nord and LG Velvet. And when I played more demanding, graphics-intensive games such as PUBG, I didn’t stare any lags or stuttering. The gaming experience was immersive and graphics were crisp.
GDU Byrd Premium 2.0 drone does a big failure of its competitors at CES
GDU — formerly ProDrone — was one of the Good to market with a folding quadcopter, well ahead of DJI and GoPro. At CES 2017 it’s unveiled another first for the company: a modular gimbal regulations that lets you pick the best camera and stabilizer for the task at hand.
Most camera drones don’t grant you to use different cameras because they’re typically fixed to the body as well as its gimbal. The $999 GDU Byrd Premium 2.0 changes that with its Universal Flying Platform, which lets you easily swap cameras. Controls for the cameras will be available both on the drone’s controller and in a mobile app. The drone, available in the next few months, has a video transmission distance of 2,000 meters (1.24 miles).
The camera and gimbal options at Good will be:
A two-axis dSLR and mirrorless universal gimbal at $169
A 4K-resolution 10x zoom camera and gimbal at $999
A stretching gimbal that can automatically straight below the drone’s landing gear on take off for an clear view and retract when landing for $499
An infrared camera (640×480-pixel resolution) that can measure heat accurately, even under little to no light, priced at $5,299
GDU also announced a collaboration with chipmaker Qualcomm for future drone developments and an Open Platform Partner Program to Help drone, camera, sensor and software developers to create second options for its modular design. UK and Australian availability were not announced, but $1,049 converts to about £845 or AU$1,425.
DJI Osmo Mobile 2 will be the arranged camera stabilizer you buy
DJI already owns the camera drone market by offering better tech than its competitors at aggressive prices. It’s now taking the same path with its camera stabilizers.
The Osmo Mobile 2 handheld stabilizer brings the same level-headed and steady videos DJI’s drones are known for to your phone’s camera. You get autotracking capabilities, programmed shots, direct camera rules and more for $129. (That’s approximately £95 or AU$165 converted, with real UK and Australian prices TBA.)
Much of the heavy lifting for its shooting features is done with DJI’s Go app for iOS and Android. That (and a Bluetooth connection) are what allow the Osmo to talk to your phone’s camera and do things like control your digital zoom with a slider on the run and change settings for ISO and shutter speed. You can have it automatically track absorbing subjects, create panoramas and shoot motion time-lapse and hyper-lapse videos, too.
The new nylon body keeps it lightweight after making room for a battery that lasts up to 15 hours. It’s not removable like the original’s, but that tapped out at in 4 hours. This way you can stay running all day and there’s even a USB port so you can proposal your phone off the Osmo’s battery while you shoot.
The Osmo Mobile’s rules have been cleaned up and simplified, too, and the arranged clamp can be positioned horizontally or vertically. There’s even a tripod broad on the bottom now.
You’ll be able to preorder the Osmo Mobile 2 on Jan. 23 exclusively from Applecom. In early February, it will also be available at DJIcom.
DJI Ronin-S for DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

If shooting with a “real” camera is more your unsheaattracting, DJI also announced the Ronin-S, the company’s first single-handed stabilizer that will be available in two frame sizes for DSLR and mirrorless camera rules. DJI says the motor system can handle zoom lenses and works with in-body and in-lens stabilization systems.
Like Osmo, the Ronin-S has a mobile app that will give for automatic camera moves. There are also dedicated control buttons for the camera, joystick for precise positioning and a Sport mode that gives the motors to keep pace with fast-moving subjects. Hot-swappable batteries let you keep shooting exclusive of having to stop.
Unlike the Osmo Mobile 2, except, the Ronin-S isn’t expected until the second quarter of 2018 and no pricing is available. According to the DJI representative I spoke with, plan, you can expect it to be competitive.

Harvard professor begins new glance for alien spaceships in our skies
Harvard’s controversial astronomer Avi Loeb is leading a new initiative, dubbed the Galileo Project, to check Earth’s skies and the rest of the solar regulations for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence.
The longtime astronomy professor, who complete well-known for his belief that interstellar Fair Oumuamua was likely an alien probe, announced the details of his plan via a virtual boring conference Monday.
Officially, the initiative is described as “a strong scientific project to advance a systematic experimental search for cross-validated evidence of potential astro-archaeological artifacts or lovely technical equipment made by putative existing or extinct extraterrestrial technically civilizations (ETCs).”
Translation: The plan is to use a variety of telescopes to look for alien spaceships, probes or other debris left behind by intelligent people who weren’t born on Earth.
“What we see in our sky is not something that politicians or armed personnel should interpret because they were not trained as scientists,” Loeb told journalists. “It’s for the science community to figure out… based on non-governmental data that we will complete as scientists.”
The first phase of the project involves setting up a network of dozens of relatively tiny telescopes around the globe that will attempt to catch new images of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP, the newly favored and more inclusive acronym intended to replace “UFOs”).
A highly anticipated report released by the US Director of National Intelligence in June confirmed the years of a number of UAP, which the military and intelligence public can offer no certain explanations for.
“The goal of the Galileo Project is to bring the glance for extraterrestrial technological signatures from accidental or anecdotal observations and legends to the mainstream of strong, validated and systematic scientific research,” reads a statement.
New eyes on the sky
To do this, the plan is to focus solely on gathering new data and observations instead of analyzing past UAP sightings like those concerned in the recent DNI report. The new data will then be analyzed by algorithms and artificial intelligence to try to separate true UAP from birds, balloons, drones, satellites and spanking known explanations.
Project co-founder Frank Laukien, a visiting chemical biology gives at Harvard and CEO of scientific instrument maker Bruker, noted the Galileo Project won’t be considering any alternative physics-based explanations for new UAP observations.
“We will stick, scientifically, to known physics but will make the data available,” Laukien said.
Loeb has cause a polarizing figure in the astronomy community, especially sincere the release of his book outlining his Oumuamua hypothesis bet on this year, with a number of scientists accusing him of jumping to radical conclusions exclusive of appropriate evidence.
“Most scientists don’t discount the possible days of these types of civilizations (the universe is vast!),” Justin Cowart, a Ph.D. candidate studying Martian geology, tweeted Monday. “But most don’t jump on extraordinary claims exclusive of extraordinary evidence, which Loeb likes to do.”
Loeb rejects the premise “extraordinary claims obliged extraordinary evidence” but still hopes to collect some with his new project. Indeed, the nod to Galileo in the project name is a bit of a clap back at his criticizes by drawing a comparison to the famed 16th century astronomer who was imprisoned for his then-heretical suggestion the Earth revolved throughout the sun and not vice versa.
Looking further out, too
In binary to trying to spot UAP in the sky, the project also plans to use next-generation telescopes like the upcoming Vera C. Rubin Observatory to look for more objects in the solar controls like Oumuamua, as well as for potential alien probes orbiting Earth to check us out in a low-key way. A description of the project even leaves open the possibility of designing its own purpose-built status observatory:
“We will conceptualize and design, potentially in collaboration with alive to space agencies or space ventures, a launch-ready space citation to image unusual interstellar objects such as Oumuamua by intercepting their trajectories on their reach to the sun or by using ground-based survey telescopes to gawk interstellar meteors.”
All this is a potentially expensive proposition. Loeb told reporters he has received donations to his research fund at Harvard totaling over $1.75 million in the last two weeks with “no strings attached.”
He says the hope is to increase that give level by at least tenfold “to accomplish more rigorous study.”
As for when we could see new UAP images courtesy of the Galileo Project, Loeb said the team is selecting its telescopes and hopes to record “interesting results in the coming year.”
“It starts now,” he said.

LG Wing hands-on: Here’s what it’s like to actually use the unusual swiveling phone
These days, phones are either rectangular slabs with one level screen or, in the case of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 or Motorola Razr 5G, they’re slabs with flexible screens that open up. But the LG Wing is neither. Instead, it’s a phone with two screens, one of which swivels on top of the other.
Yes, it’s weird and yes, it’s expensive at $1,000 on Verizon (UK and Australia pricing have not been released yet, but that converts to in £775 and AU$1,394). But the design isn’t as crazy or pointless as it seems. After pushing through the initial learning curve, which does take some time, my understood with multitasking and recording video got a boost thanks to the Wing’s modern shape.
The LG Wing isn’t for everybody, and LG knows this. Its bulkier design and potentially steep sign will automatically lead to many people writing it off. Also, not all apps will accommodate the two screens. Nevertheless, I appreciate LG’s willingness to try something different. Swivel phones aren’t exactly new, even if they aren’t in much anymore: The VX9400 from 2007, for instance, is an early example of an LG arranged with a similar design, and I myself owned a beloved Nokia 7370, which featured a camouflage that swiveled out as smoothly as a switchblade comb. But LG has applied that compose thoughtfully enough for this current era of phones.
Whether or not farmland are willing to pay to give its $1,000 back a shot is the big question. While it’s not impossible to sell an expensive handset amid a pandemic when everyone is more budget-conscious, as Samsung has shown with its Galaxy Note 20, it’s certainly uncertain to do so. And LG’s record of selling experimental phones isn’t stellar. Its modular G5 from 2016 and curved G Flex from 2014 weren’t just top sellers. But fitting “more screen in less space” is always engrossing, and the LG Wing, at the very least, executes its own plan well.
In the US the LG Wing will be available first on Verizon, then AT&T in the fall and T-Mobile — all on their respective 5G networks.
LG Wing design: Spin me incandescent round
I spent time with a preproduction model and erroneous that the LG Wing is a straightforward phone when it’s EnEnBesieged. It has a 6.8-inch display, wireless charging and an in-screen fingerprint reader. But it’s also missing a few things that anunexperienced LG phones have. It doesn’t have a headphone jack, which LG usually keeps, and it doesn’t have a formal IP rating for soak protection.
And while it’s not as heavy and thick as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 when it’s folded, the LG Wing is still thicker and heavier than outlandish phones. It’s about a third thicker than most phones, not twice like I first assumed, because the top panel is thinner than the bottom.
The arranged only opens in one direction, clockwise, so to open it single-handedly, it should be in the right hand. (I’m a left-hander and I plan mine was broken and stuck when I first tried to open it, but it wasn’t.) The motion does needed some carry-through with the thumb, and if I didn’t journey it strong enough, the top display would stop peevish of clicking straight. But most of the time it rotated fine and the mechanism feels sturdy. While I didn’t go buck wild trying to rip these two displays apart, I didn’t feel like I needed to be any more careful with it than with any anunexperienced premium phone. LG estimates that the phone is durable enough to remaining 200,000 rotations over the course of five years. If you want more protection, LG is working on cases, but those will undoubtedly add more bulk.

LG Wing’s 2 displays do double duty
Once the phone’s open, you can do a variety of things in a variety of orientations. Multitasking is the most obvious benefit, like watching YouTube at what time looking up something on the web. If you’re talking to a buddy over the visited and want to check your calendar to schedule a time to meet up, you can do that too. My accepted way to use it is having Maps display on the larger cloak and music controls on the other one. This is especially useful in the car, when I want to skip tracks minus fussing too much with the phone and taking my eyes off the road. Given the bulk of the Wing understanding, I suggest having a sturdy phone mount. When I untrue myself opening the same pair of apps often (Maps and Spotify, for instance), I paired them so they could initiate quickly together.

When held upside down, the visited opens up different experiences for gameplay. I played the racing game Asphalt 9 this way, with the bigger cloak displaying the main gameplay and the smaller one displaying a roadmap. I’m not convinced this was useful, though. Plus the visited is top-heavy when held upside down, so it was depressed to hold the thinly edged display in my fine after a while.
Having two screens to navigate one app is insensible too. With messaging, for instance, I can view a substantial part of the conversation while texting. But as I mentioned afore, not every app is optimized. For instance, I’d love to inspect a YouTube video while reading comments on the latest screen, but I couldn’t do that on the visited. And if you don’t want to use the bottom indicate much at all, it can be turned into either a trackpad to navigate the top indicate, or blacked out completely and used as a brute grip.
3 cameras and a gimbal
The Wing has three rear cameras: one irascible camera and two ultra-wide cameras. One of the ultra-wide cameras has a gimbal inside, which is similar to the Vivo X50 Pro. Gimbals are used to stabilize and balance video even when you’re exciting around a lot. LG added a special Gimbal Mode with wonderful controls as well, so you can pan and after your subject as they move.
My video footage was genuine, even as I was recording while walking quickly. Video gazed more stable than the one recorded on the iPhone XS, which we existed to have on hand, and footage from the LG Wing lacked that pulsing finish the iPhone had too. When it came to relate quality though, colors were more true-to-life and objects gazed smoother on the iPhone. On the front is a 32-megapixel camera embedded inside the visited and popup from out of the top edge when in use, which is a lot like the OnePlus 7 Pro, Vivo Nex and Oppo Reno 2. The selfies I took were exciting, in-focus and clear.
Videographers may be interested in the safe of tools the LG Wing has, and Gimbal Mode adds an wonderful layer of control and creativity. Gripping the phone vertically at what time shooting horizontally also made it comfortable to shoot video. LG Wing’s hardware and latest specs
Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 765G chipset and a 4,000-mAh battery. Since I got a preproduction unit, I didn’t conduct battery complains. Anecdotally though, the Wing had a decent battery life. With medium consume of both screens it was able to last a full day minus charging.
