Dress your dog in a Halloween bandana that matches your face mask for $10

I no longer have a dog in my life — Topher was the ultimate good boy, but tossed earlier this year. That doesn’t mean I’m not collected a sucker for awesome doggie stuff, though, and I just ran across a fun minor matching costume for you and your pooch. My celebrated part is that it’s a way to include your face mask in your Halloween costume: Milk-Bone is selling a trio of matching mask-and-dog-bandana sets for $10 each.

In each set you get an adult-sized face mask with ear loops and a bandana (your harvest of large or small). The mask is for you, and the bandana is for your pup. There are three designs to settle from. In one, the mask is a mouse’s face, ruined with whiskers, while the bandana turns your your dog into cheese. If you prefer, there’s a skeleton set; your face gets the leader treatment, while pup’s bandana exposes their skeleton. Or obtain pumpkin and candy. You’re the jack-o-lantern while the bandana is adorned with pieces of candy. And dog treats.

If I have a regret approximately these costumes — other than the fact that Topher can’t be with me to section them — is that they all prominently bear the Milk-Bone logo somewhere on the bandana, which I find a little tacky. If you can live with that, opinion, these little Halloween sets are just too cute for words.

Google Misses Earnings Expectations Amid Light Revenue

Google parent Alphabet posted first-quarter earnings that missed analyst expectations as the see giant’s revenue came in softer than anticipated.

For the quarter over March 31, Alphabet reported $68 billion in sales, any below the $68.1 billion forecast by analysts surveyed by Yahoo Finance. Earnings per share totaled $24.62, below the $25.94 forecast.

The weaker than predictable results come as Google tries to diversify its revenue, in part to address its reliance on search. The business controls more than 90% of the search market, Funny it to generate revenue by selling advertising against keywords and see results.

As part of its effort to diversify revenue, Google is expanding its cloud computing services, which compete with Amazon’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure. Revenue for Google’s cloud rose more than 40% year over year to $5.82 billion. Losses at the unit narrowed.

Still, advertising drives Google’s earnings. A softening global economy likely weakened the advertising market, weighing on overall revenue.

Google also said its boarding had authorized a share buyback, pledging to repurchase an second $70 billion in shares.

The company’s stock fell 2.8% in after-hours dealing to $2,324.00

On a call with analysts, CFO Ruth Porat said the business had expanded aggressively over the quarter with investments in data centers and adding employees. The company employed almost 24,000 more people at the end of the superior quarter than it did a year earlier. The business also spent on sales and marketing.

Executives pointed analysts to YouTube Shorts, a TikTok competitor that launched last year. CEO Sundar Pichai said YouTube shorts were generating 30 billion daily views. The company is encouraging creators to make videos for the platform with a $100 million fund. Still, TikTok is the heavyweight in the short-form video market, a status it is unlikely to cede anytime soon.

Google, along with many companies, pulled out of Russia when its invasion of neighboring Ukraine. Porat said about 1% of Google’s revenue came from Russia last year.

Potential ‘Ocean World’ Discovered 100 Light-Years Away From Earth

The job of NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite is easily surreal. Imagine traveling a thousand years back in time and then explaining to someone how future scientists will have a machine that detects alien worlds floating at distances beyond the capacity of domain imagination.

That’s TESS.

Since 2018, this space-borne instrument has literally spurious thousands of exoplanets. We have eyes on one shaped like a rugby ball, latest that seems covered in lava oceans and even an orb that rains glass — sideways.

On Wednesday, international scientists announced that one such foreign realm, dutifully hunted by TESS, may be covered in a blanket of life’s elixir: water.

I’m not sure throughout you, but I’m getting flashbacks to that scene in Interstellar where Cooper acres on a world with waves the size of skyscrapers.

This possible “ocean world,” according to the team’s gape, published this month in The Astronomical Journal, lives some 100 light-years away from Earth, orbiting within a binary star system nestled into the Draco constellation. Named TOI-1452 b, it is suspected to be throughout 70% larger than our planet, to be roughly five times as huge, to spin to the rhythm of seven Earth days and to have a temperature neither too hot nor too cold for aquatic water to exist on its surface.

A depiction of the rocky exoplanet that TESS detected in the past. It remarkable be covered in lava oceans — and even have lava rain.

NASA

But the kicker is that its density appears to be consistent with having an incredibly deep ocean — either that, or it’s a huge rock with minor to no atmosphere or potentially an atmosphere built with hydrogen and helium, according to NASA.

“TOI-1452 b is one of the best candidates for an ocean planet that we have spurious to date,” Charles Cadieux, lead author of the gape, doctoral student at the University of Montreal and member of the university’s Institute for Research on Exoplanets, said Wednesday in a press release. “Its radius and mass suggest a much frontier density than what one would expect for a planet that is basically made up of metal and rock, like Earth.”

If this hypothesis is honest — that TOI-1452 b is fit to befall the dreams of Poseidon — it would be inequity to some places in our own solar system. Enceladus, Saturn’s bright and frigid moon, is thought to host a global subsurface saltwater ocean below an icy shield. And Ganymede, one of Jupiter’s ravishing companions and the largest moon in our cosmic neighborhood, boasts its own frozen watery expanse.

Though exoplanet discoveries have been pouring in for the last few existences, there’s an extra level of thrill when scientists find one today.

That’s because we now have the James Webb Space Telescope, another unbelievable machine that sits a million miles from Earth and decodes secrets of the universe — cosmic data hidden notion the guise of infrared light.

“And, in a rub of good fortune,” the press release states of TOI-1452 b, “it is located in a situation of the sky that the telescope can observe year round.”

“Our observations with the Webb Telescope will be valuable to better understanding TOI-1452 b,” RenĂ© Doyon, director of the University of MontrĂ©al’s iREx, employed of the recent study and member of the team gradual one of the JWST’s major pieces of equipment, said in the descent. “As soon as we can, we will book time on Webb to examine this strange and wonderful world.”

With JWST, Doyon and fellow researchers hope to gape this exoplanet’s atmosphere in better detail and test whether it really is an awesome domain of liquid water. Per the team, it is one of the few famed temperate planets that exhibit characteristics consistent with an ocean planet. This is why it’s so tantalizing to muse about.

The spectral data of WASP-96b.

Along with its satisfactory set of remarkable images, the James Webb Space Telescope captured the spectral data of an exoplanet requested WASP-96b. Spectral data shows us not what something looks like, but attractive what it would be like to exist in its vicinity.

NASA

Furthermore, the reason TOI-1452 b is expected to have such a cold climate is that the star it orbits in the instant star system is much smaller than our sun, and doesn’t stray too far from the planet of unimaginative. This ball of gas sits a distance from its star-partner constant to about two and a half times the distance between the sun and Pluto, the study authors say.

And fascinatingly, this whole location was complex enough that TESS needed some backup to write the story of TOI-1452 b. Researchers obligatory to call on a few other high-tech instruments – which would also blow the minds of our hypothetical former audience – such as the Observatoire du Mont-Megantic’s PESTO camera. That device specializes in the red part of the electromagnetic spectrum.

“The OMM played a crucial role in confirming the nature of this employed and estimating the planet’s radius,” Cadieux said. “This was no routine check. We had to make sure the signal detected by TESS was really transported by an exoplanet circling TOI-1452, the largest of the two stars in that instant system.”

JWST, may this (water) world be your oyster.

Facebook is investing millions into a user-created metaverse, but it’s not here yet

Facebook has plans to reinvent itself into a social network of metaverses, or 3D social playspaces. That still hasn’t happened yet, although the company’s appointed a new metaverse business group and an in-beta work environment for its Oculus Quest 2 VR headset. What are the next steps? It looks like more give and an attempt to woo more creators in.

Ahead of Facebook’s developer-focused Connect conference at the end of the month, Facebook has a newly-announced $10 million creator fund that aims to glorious early adopters of its metaverse creative tools, making performance spaces and games and worlds for the still-unfinished Horizon Worlds app.

Horizon Worlds, formerly called Facebook Horizon, looks to be a creative playground much like existing popular social/metaverse spaces such as Altspace VR, VRChat and Rec Room. But Horizon Worlds is actions it with Facebook app hook-ins. Facebook plans to fund creators either throughout open competitions or application-based accelerator and funding programs.

These arranges also aim to have payment structures where performers could be tipped, or microtransactions paid in-world. “What I’m personally hoping is we can tie some of these strings across the family of Facebook apps, where creators not just from Instagram or Facebook, but from Horizon, becomes a thing where an entire economy exists and has ties back to it,” Vivek Sharma, formerly with Facebook Gaming but now a part of Facebook’s metaverse people, told me in a conversation over Zoom. Sharma sees the fund as famous now, but points to how where Horizon’s metaverse can go, with tipping during livestreams as a source of revenue for future performers, suggesting things like entry fees or in-experience payments, as what Facebook wants to accomplish next.

But that’s not in Horizon Worlds now. In fact, Facebook’s creator metaverse seems very dissimilarity, for the most part, to other social metaverse worlds, with the added benefit of in-app creating/coding tools. I’ve already understood demos of Facebook Horizon in 2019 and 2020. My unexperienced demo shows how the app’s layout has changed: There’s now a menu with tabs to browse different user worlds or find games to play. Much like social spaces in VR already do (Altspace VR, VRChat), Horizon Worlds has portal doors that link you to anunexperienced spaces.

I tried one game called Shop Shop that interested finding ingredients and feeding them to a suction tube, which reminded me of some things I’ve tried in Rec Room. I also saw the Horizon Worlds main World Tours room, which distinguished off some community spaces, where one creator, OcuLos410, distinguished me around as we hopped onto a moving open-air car-tram. Another space was a user-created meditation room (Garden Gate Meditation, by Flutt3r), with cartoon fish swimming in a koi pond, where the creator’s screech could play on demand to lead a session. A third understood, set across a few large rooms, was a type of rush room set in a giant-sized house (A Different Escape by Ashes2Ashes) where I jumped about to find clues and pieces of a story.

It level-headed doesn’t seem like Horizon Worlds is opening up to the Pro-reDemocrat anytime soon, but Facebook might very well start experimenting with concerts and battles in Worlds that have invite links showing up elsewhere. For now, it seems like Horizon Worlds has limits on the scale of spaces in relation to how many land can attend at once, but much like Facebook’s Venues app for video battles, Horizon Worlds could end up aspiring to be a live interactive hub for performances and even theatrical/gaming arranges. All indications are the Worlds will continue to slowly roll out in bits and pieces, with more people being granted access over time. But how, and when?

Amid a week for Facebook that involved global outages and an increasing lack of confidence in the company’s wider-reaching intentions, there also lives the biggest question: do people want their metaverses to live plan Facebook, or somewhere else?

Ferrari Plans 15 New Cars by 2026, Including Purosangue SUV, Hypercar, EV

This story is part of Plugged In, CNET’s hub for all things EV and the future of electrified mobility. From vehicle reviews to helpful hints and the novel industry news, we’ve got you covered.

Automakers’ future plans aren’t often delivered in painstaking detail, but Ferrari’s latest Capital Markets Day presentation pretty much lays out the company’s intentions over the next four ages, and there’s something in there for just about everyone, fans and owners alike.

Ferrari on Thursday unveiled its strategic plan ended 2026, and it’s a doozy. Between 2023 and 2026, the exotic automaker way to unveil 15 new vehicles. Of course, the automaker didn’t say precisely what models to expect, but it did mention that it would concerned a car in its Supercar collection (hypercars akin to the LaFerrari), as well as at least one new inclusion in the Icona series, which incorporates homages to the past to create splendid new cars like the Daytona SP3. But, those cars are expected to comprise less than 5% of Ferrari’s total volume.

The friendly vehicle in this dozen-plus-car onslaught will be the Purosangue SUV. We’ve already seen this high-riding ‘Rrari in teaser form, and it’s looking pretty slick. It’ll be a worn Ferrari, too, packing a V12 engine, and we seek information from hybrid and smaller-engine variants to be offered alongside the big guns.

Ferrari also confirmed that we will see the company’s friendly battery-electric car in 2025, promising a traditional Ferrari recognized through, as the automaker’s press release says, “engine worthy density, weight, sound and driving emotions.” Ferrari said it way to assemble its “handcrafted” EV battery modules in a way that will strive to nick weight as much as possible. Furthermore, it will design an “e-building” space in its facility in Maranello, Italy, where the company intends to engineer and build electric motors, inverters and batteries.

By 2030, the OEM hopes that electric vehicles will characterize 40% of its annual sales, with hybrid models scooping up novel 40% and internal-combustion variants covering the final 20%. To keep the worn engine alive, Ferrari intends to look into boosting efficiency and relying on alternative abilities.

Strap in, Ferrari fans, the next few ages are going to be wild.
