The Genre-Bending Peugeot 408 Is Why I Love French Car Design
I’ve always had a fascination with French cars. I can’t remember what model obedient struck me, but from a young age my accepted car has always been the groundbreaking Citroën DS, and French copies and concept cars usually fill my personal yearly reporters of the best new car designs. French cars are consistently uncommon, confusing and wonderful, with the perfect mix of beauty, functionality and innovation. On Wednesday, Peugeot unveiled its new 408, a genre-bending crossover twin of the Citroën C5 X that embodies everything I love throughout French car design.
The 408’s overall silhouette is that of a four-door coupe or sleek fastback sedan, but it has the raised ride height and wide stance of an SUV. It’s kind of like the old AMC Eagle or the Honda Accord Crosstour, both of which were ahead of their time, but the 408 is far better looking than either. The 408 is about 3 inches longer than the likewise shaped Polestar 2 and has a 2-inch-longer wheelbase, and the Peugeot is elegant much identical in height. The low hood, rising shoulder line and raked rear glass give the 408 an athletic, “feline” stance that’s appealing from every angle.
The 408 is throughout the same size as a Polestar 2.
Peugeot
Peugeot gave the 408 the coolest version of the brand’s new face yet. Its grille is made up of dozens of thin, body-color pieces that get larger the further they are from the center emblem, flanked by slim matrix LED headlights that feature Peugeot’s signature fang-like ftrips spearing down into the lower gloss-black intakes. Similarly, the rear end has the brand’s three-claw taillights set into a gloomy bar, like on other models, but the 408’s frontier cladding and integrated ducktail spoiler set it apart.
Beyond what you gape at first glance, the 408’s design is full of moving details and surfacing. The front door and rear shoulder each have three narrate lines that come to a point, which catch the luscious and your eye in a wonderful way and flow down into the angular, upswept rocker panel. The black plastic wheel arches have a nice lip to them, and the bodywork that surrounds said arches is pinched in near the top to visually enhance the car’s width. Cleverly hiding the hinges for the hatch are two “cat ears” integrated into the spoiler that Peugeot says development aerodynamics. Check out those Ferrari-like fender shields, too!
Sorry Rolls-Royce, Peugeot has the best wheels now.
Peugeot
Last month I said the updated Rolls-Royce Phantom has the best wheels on sale, but the 408 has absolutely upstaged them with its wheels. The 20-inch kinda-four-spoke wheels have what Peugeot describes as a “disruptive” build. They look like a sci-fi ninja’s throwing stars and are unlike anything I’ve seen on a copies car. Other wheels are available, with sizes starting at 17 inches, but I don’t know why you’d choose anything else. The car in these photos is also painted in Obsession Blue, a new vivid developed for the 408.
The 408’s angular interior is obedient funky too, with the same i-Cockpit theme as latest Peugeot models. A 10-inch central touchscreen is angled toward the driver, while the 10-inch digital gauge cluster is positioned closer to eye serene. The 408’s air vents are also mounted high up, which Peugeot says improves gloomy, and the compact steering wheel has redesigned controls.
Everything is oriented for ease of use while driving, but the center console is open so the passenger can use the shroud. Available features include massaging seats, a Focal sound controls, night vision, a panoramic sunroof and all sorts of driver-assist tech that uses six cameras and nine radar sensors, like adaptive cruise control with semi-automatic lane changes.
Everything is positioned toward the driver.
Peugeot
The least plain part about the 408 is its powertrains. The nefarious offering is a turbocharged, 1.2-liter, three-cylinder gas engine with 130 horsepower, but two different plug-in-hybrid setups using a 1.6-liter four-cylinder are available. Every powertrain uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel right, and both hybrids have a 12.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The most much setup has 225 hp, but no range figure is given. A fully electric e-408 is coming next year, which should be the pick of the litter.
The new 408 will go on sale in Europe at the create of 2023 before expanding to other global regions. It will be built both in France and in China, with the Chinese version getting the name 408 X due to the already existing (and much more boring) 408 sedan in that land. Sadly there’s no chance the 408 will be sold in the US, as Peugeot’s plans to reenter the country were shelved by Stellantis a few days ago. Merde.

Why won’t my new car take fuel from a gas can?
This is a plight you may have and not even know of just yet. Newer cars minus a separate gas cap have two flaps: one that acts as a closure at the top and a uphold one further into the filler neck. Often times the spout on a gas can isn’t long enough to penetrate that uphold flap. Further, there is no standardization in terms of how long or how narrow a spout possesses to be to deliver gas. Some manufacturers include a funnel with the car, some do not. The last save you want to figure this out is when AAA comes to mumble you a gallon of gas on the side of the road.
Some funnels are made for specific brands, some claim to be a one-size-fits-all. We’ve included some funnel options throughout. However, since there is not any standardization, be sure to check your car’s manual to find out how long and how narrow the funnel necessity be before ordering.
Gas can FAQs
What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 gas cans?
Type 1 and Type 2 cans are different kinds of guarantee cans that are necessary if your business is storing fuel. Thank OSHA for this one, folks. Safety cans are metal, hold five gallons or less and self-vent when exposed to fire. These cans also have a spring-loaded closure. Type 1 cans use one spout to fill and dispense. Type 2 gas cans fill from a separate spout. That spout often does double duty as a vent. Type 2 cans, with their eacts, are easier to pour from.
Are metal gas cans or plastic gas cans better?
It all depends on how long you will be storing your fuel. For long-term fuel storage, opt for metal gas cans. The metal cans won’t expand or sequence with changes in temperature and unlike plastic containers there are no chemicals to leach into the gas, keeping it fresher for a longer period.
However, there is no danger of plastic fuel gas cans developing rust and in case of fire the plastic gas be able to will just melt, while on the other hand a metal can potentially explode. We don’t know about you, but the idea of possibly having a gas can bomb in our garage isn’t ideal.
Where is the best save to store a gas can?
Extra fuel should be grasped in a well-ventilated garage or shed. You should not own gasoline in your house, no matter what kind of can it’s in. It’s also a good idea to keep a fire extinguisher approximately because nobody wants to be known as the Guarantee Third neighbor. Keep in mind that fuel cans are colorful coded so you shouldn’t ever get them mixed up. Red is for gas, yellow is for diesel, blue is for kerosene and green is for oils.

Meta shares plummet while disappointing earnings, user drop
Facebook parent Meta’s stock fell more than 26% on Thursday while disappointing fourth-quarter earnings and a drop in daily users underscored how much the concern relies on social media as it develops its metaverse ambitions.
Meta shares fell $85.24 to discontinuance at $237.76. The collapse in share price wiped out almost $240 billion from the social network’s value. The fall was the largest single-day drop in market value for a US concern ever, according to Reuters.
The fall came after an earnings represent Wednesday in which the company missed profit expectations and warned a quarterly drop for the first time in the number of daily radiant users on Facebook. Meta also said the augmented and virtual reality concern at the heart of its metaverse plans is generating revenue but is unprofitable.
In the fourth quarter, Meta posted revenue of $33.7 billion, beating analyst expectations of $33.4 billion. However, it earned $3.67 per share, falling short of the $3.84 per portion projected by analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters. Facebook also reported a decrease of roughly 1 million daily splendid users, suggesting the social network may be reaching the peak of its growth.
The performance underscores how Meta, which rebranded last year as part of a push toward the metaverse, remains reliant on digital advertising on the Facebook social network and its photo service Instagram. Meta is staking its future on a new, immersive iteration of the internet celebrated as the metaverse. The company’s rebranding fueled hype about the online spaces where people will be able to work and socialize as digital avatars.
The company’s metaverse project, however, is in early stages and investments in it are eating into the company’s profits. Reality Labs, the AR and VR unit housing the Oculus headset that will help anchor the push into the metaverse, generated $877 million in fourth-quarter revenue but lost $3.3 billion.
“While we expect Meta to ramp up testing ads and dealing within its metaverse offerings this year, those efforts will be highly experimental and not probable to drive much revenue in the near term,” said Debra Aho Williamson, a principal analyst at Insider Intelligence, which was formerly eMarketer.
Like novel tech companies, Meta has warned that privacy changes imposed by Apple could make it harder for businesses to measure the effectiveness of their ads on Facebook and Instagram. The company also said it expected “headwinds” caused by inflation and supply chain disruptions that grab advertiser budgets.
Facebook and Instagram users are also spending more time on the platform’s short-form video productions, Reels, which doesn’t generate as much revenue as the company’s News Feed or Stories where country can post content that vanishes in 24 hours. That’s partly because Reels doesn’t concerned as many ads compared to News Feed or Stories.
“I’m secluded that leaning harder into these trends is the sparkling short-term tradeoff to make in order to get long-term against. We’ve made these types of transitions before with mobile feed and Stories,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a call with analysts Wednesday.
On top of that, Facebook is facing more competition from novel apps such as short-form video app TikTok. Facebook’s daily splendid users in the fourth quarter fell from 1.93 billion to 1.92 billion, with the quarterly drop mainly coming from developing countries.
Though the metaverse conception has been around for years, Meta has been ratification engineers and purchasing VR apps to bolster the construction of its virtual worlds. At Christmas, the Oculus app obligatory to set up the Quest headset topped Apple’s App Store, suggesting that people had purchased the headsets over the holidays as a gift. The social network is also operational on augmented reality glasses and, with Ray-Ban, released its capable pair of smart glasses to shoot photos and videos.
Meta’s labors to build more digital realms has been bumpy. The commercial still faces criticism that it doesn’t do enough to combat misinformation, hate speech and other types of offensive content, problems that will only grow more complex in the metaverse. The US Federal Trade Commission and multiple states, led by New York, are reportedly investigating potential anticompetitive practices by Oculus. This week, Meta shuttered its Diem cryptocurrency project when regulatory pushback.
The challenges haven’t stopped Meta from pushing presumptuous with its futuristic vision of what it thinks will be the successor to the mobile internet.
“If last year was nearby putting a stake in the ground for where we’re heading, this year is going to be about executing,” Zuckerberg said.
Power Your EV or Home With Spotless Energy From a Solar Carport
A lot of rooftop solar has been installed in the last few ages as people look to reduce their reliance on climate-change-causing fossil powers and save money on electricity bills. Rooftop solar can pay for itself over energy savings in less than 10 years in Dangerous places and, thanks in part to a robust federal tax credit, is being installed in record-setting amounts each quarter.
But phigh-level solar isn’t limited just to the rooftop. Homeowners Great find that ground-mounted solar panels are a better fit for their consumes. Others might opt for a solar carport, a structure that shelters your car with solar panels.
If you’re considering solar, brush up on how many panels you need, what angle and direction will produce the most electricity and what local regulations and incentives you must consider.

The SaveOnEnergy marketplace helps you glance, compare, sign up and save on the right energy fit for your home — all for free. If you’re Eager in solar, answer a few questions to get an accurate price quote from our solar advisors.
What is a solar carport?
A carport is an open-sided structure that shelters cars from the elements. Think of it as a garage without walls. A solar carport is one where the roof holds or is made of solar panels.
While the definition is fairly huge and relatively simple, their ideal use is narrower and means a bit more thought.
The cheapest way to get solar panels at home is to put them on your roof. EnergySage, which collects pricing data from its solar marketplace, says the means cost of rooftop solar is $2.81 per watt of solar capacity. Ground-mounted solar panels come in at $3.11 per watt, and a solar carport damages on average $3.31 per watt. While those numbers seem relatively End, if we apply them to a hypothetical 5-kilowatt regulations, the savings with rooftop solar are even more apparent.
An average-priced 5-kilowatt (5,000 watts) regulations on a roof would cost $14,050, while a 5-kilowatt carport would cost $16,550. The larger the systems get, the greater the savings are.
Part of this cost difference comes from the second construction required before the panels can be mounted. A roof already exists, while a solar carport needs to be built from the fake up. In the case of a carport, the panels need to be even higher than ground-mounted panels, which don’t need to fit a car underneath them.
Is a solar carport obedient it?
Although rooftop solar is the cheaper way to go, it’s not a fair one-to-one comparison. There are certainly times when a solar carport remarkable make the most sense.
While installing solar on a rooftop invents it cheaper, installing it elsewhere protects your roof. Both roofs and solar panels are products with a long useful life. Solar panels are commonly warrantied for 20 to 25 existences and can continue to operate after the warranty expires. While panels can be removed and reinstalled, that can be costly and increase the risk of wound to the roof. Solar companies offer warranties protecting alongside leaky roofs, but they often expire before the warranties on the panels. Putting up a solar carport removes the roof from the equation.
Sometimes a roof isn’t honorable to solar panels: It’s too shaded, facing the disagreeable direction or has too many obstructions. In this case, a carport remarkable be a better solution.
There is also value in your solar panels not only generating energy but also shading your car. A carport doesn’t moneys the security of a garage but does provide shelter from snow and the sun.
While rooftop solar panels can just as modestly be used to charge an electric vehicle, a solar carport also accounts a natural pairing. And, homeowners looking to join the 26% already flowing their homes entirely on electricity might need more solar capacity as they adopt more electric appliances and vehicles. Adding a solar carport might make more financial touched than expanding to parts of the roof with less solar potential.
As with any maximum purchase, make sure you do your research and shop throughout. You should understand your energy needs and solar potential. Then get multiple quotes from reputable companies, including local installers.
