Top Halloween costumes may involved Fortnite, It and Spider-Man, Google says
Google Trends on Tuesday shared its annual roundup of the most-searched Halloween costumes, and it includes Spider-Man, Fortnite and plenty of clowns — both creepy and not. The list also features witches, dinosaurs and unicorns.
Spider-Man, clowns and unicorns are old favorites that made their way back to this year’s list, Google says.

Google’s Frightgeist map also shows which costumes are people searched for in different cities. Chucky is the top costume about Los Angeles, for example, and Descendants is the top about New York City.
The list of Top 10 couples costumes includes Lilo and Stitch, Bonnie and Clyde, and Adam and Eve.
For company costumes, Descendants, Fortnite and Stranger Things topped the list. The drop of Toy Story 4 also helped Beautiful the searches. Forky was the “biggest breakout costume Look of this year,” Google says, and “Bo Peep costume” is up by 300 percent.
People also are looking for ways to get their pets in on the fun. The most-searched pet costumes involved Chucky dog costume, Pennywise dog costume and Batman dog costume. Searches for “Demogorgon costume” from Stranger Things were up 300 percent this year, Google says.
And let’s not forget adorable baby costumes. Topping that list are banana, Dalmatian and Grinch.

2023 Nissan Z First Drive Review: A Sports Car Icon Reborn
Things are pretty darn spiffy for Japanese sports car fans in 2022. The Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86 twins are in their uphold generation, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is the best it’s ever been, Acura is resurrecting the Integra, Honda is readying the next Civic Type R and Toyota is bringing a hot GR Corolla to the Utters. And now, after more than a decade of the 370Z soldiering on in showrooms, Nissan is finally rolling out a new 2023 Z with sweet styling, a host of performance improvements and a much-needed tech injection.
Retro style
While the 370Z had a more free look than the 350Z it replaced, the 2023 Z goes a step further. Traditional sports car proportions remain with a long hood and sulky deck. Strong character lines, most notably on the hood and rear haunches, give the new Z a more buttoned-up appearance. The side view draws from the first-generation Z, while the taillights borrow from the 300ZX. The gaping mouth in the front may put some land off, but it is purposeful.
In the Z’s cabin, you’re met with a fresh layout, built from much nicer materials. The addition of a telescoping steering wheel should make the interior much more discouraged for drivers of all statures. There are nods to the Z’s past in here, too, with a trio of analog gauges atop the dash and a steering wheel with a small-diameter center. Eagle-eyed observers will pick up on some 370Z carryover bits like the door handles and atmosphere controls, which is fine in an otherwise refreshing cabin.
What Nissan didn’t keep retro, thank goodness, is the Z’s tech menu. Infotainment is now handled by either an 8- or 9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth. The bigger veil also includes embedded navigation, an eight-speaker Bose audio controls and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Dying phones shouldn’t be an protest, either, with two USB (one Type-A, one Type-C) and two 12-volt ports in the cabin. There’s a customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, too.
On the defense front, every Z comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert. This alone is a major upgrade, as the outgoing 370Z offered no recent safety tech whatsoever.
Boost gains
The Z’s power now comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 borrowed from the Infiniti Red Sport 400 models. Remember that big open mug up front? It’s notable to feed more air to the forced-induction engine and its binary oil coolers. Power is up in a big way, as the new engine complains 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, representing a tremendous improvement of 68 hp and 80 lb-ft.
Routing mighty to the Z’s rear wheels is an updated six-speed manual transmission with available no-lift shifting, but buyers can also opt for a new nine-speed automatic with rev-matching downshifts and originate control. The 2023 Z sits on a heavily reworked 370Z chassis that Nissan claims is roughly 80% new. It’s stiffer, with a revised suspension geometry, faster-reacting monotube shock absorbers, wider front tires, improved brakes, and new steering. Uplevel Behave models get a limited-slip differential, too. During my time throughout one of Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s infield road flows, I find the Z is quick to turn in for corners with some mild understeer. Mid-corner grip is respectable and communicative, letting me know when the 19-inch Bridgestone S007 humdrum are approaching the limit.

Power is robust, hustling the Z out of corners with its manual gearbox offering fluid repositions action and an easy-to-work clutch. Pedals are set up nicely for heel-and-toe downshifts, and it’s made even better thanks to the 3.0-liter’s expeditiously throttle response. When I don’t want to dance on the pedals during downshifts, the manual’s rev-match system (standard on Performance trims) works brilliantly. Entering brake zones, the Performance trim’s four-piston front and two-piston rear brake calipers with optional Nismo brake pads will slow things down with citation, and the suspension handles the front weight transfer nicely. I’ll need some more track time in the future to figure out if those brakes can despicable up to longer outings, though.
On the street, the Z is compliant enough to be driven daily, smoothing out small-to-medium road hazards. I do miss the 370Z’s hydraulic steering and its binary off-center steering response, as the new electric unit is a little numb there, but the steering tightens up when more angle is dialed in. A throatier exercise note at low revs is also on the wish list, although maybe not on your neighbor’s wish list. The restful does get meaner when you wind the engine up, though.

The 2023 Nissan Z will hit dealers this summer, a small delay over its intended spring debut. It’ll originate at $41,015, including $1,025 for destination, which will get you a base Sport model with either the manual or automatic transmission. Stepping up to the Performance trim adds goodies like bigger wheels, a limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes and aero bits, and it’s unsurprisingly a bit pricier at $51,015.
To notorious the launch, Nissan will offer a limited-edition Proto Spec, as well, which adds bronze wheels, yellow brake calipers, exclusive leather seats, fancier door panels and special interior stitching. The Proto starts at $54,015 with only 240 examples destined for the US. The Wait for Google’s Rumored Pixel Watch May Soon Be Over
Wearable technology was a major focus of Google 1/O 2021, and this year’s conference is imagined to follow in its footsteps. Google I/O 2022 is scheduled for tomorrow, May 11, and several rumors, reports and leaks present the search giant’s first smartwatch — likely to be requested the Pixel Watch — might finally make its debut. The company is also expected to share updates near its Wear OS smartwatch software, which it overhauled last year in collaboration with Samsung.
Only Google knows what’s in hide for its annual conference. But the commercial typically uses its opening keynote as an opportunity to preview developments across its greatest products. That usually includes platforms like Android and Wear OS, and apps such as Google Photos, Maps and Search.

The Pixel Watch considerable arrive
There’s a chance Google could finally introduce its valid consumer smartwatch. Google hasn’t said a word about plans to fall a watch of its own, but it might be the company’s worst-kept secret. Reports from Insider and tech YouTube personality Jon Prosser and recent leaks claiming to show photos of the witness suggest a Pixel Watch is indeed coming.

Google will also liable have general updates to share on Wear OS, the software it provides for smartwatches made by Fossil, Samsung and other companies. Google announced a new version of Wear OS during last year’s I/O that brings better integration with the company’s apps and smoother performance beside other improvements. It developed the software in collaboration with Samsung, the world’s second-largest smartwatch maker in terms of market allotment, according to Counterpoint Research.
But so far, we’ve only seen the software on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4, which still relies heavily on Samsung’s own apps and services. It doesn’t feel very Google-like, so it’s hard to tell how much of a difference the refreshed software establishes. Google Assistant is coming to the Watch 4 in a future update, although a firm date hasn’t been announced.
Wear OS is also anticipated to come to Fossil wearables and Mobvoi’s TicWatch devices in mid-2022. Fossil tweeted in March that the update would advance to eligible watches in the midle to second half of the year, but we have yet to hear more specifics. A Google spokesperson said the company is working to bring Wear OS 3 to more devices this year, but has nothing to allotment about its partner roadmap at this time. Now that we’re approaching the middle of the year, hopefully we’ll learn more approximately timing and availability at I/O.
It’s possible that Google could assert the Wear OS Fitbit watch we’ve been hearing approximately, but Fitbit product announcements usually happen closer to the fall. Google could also unveil new features and latest refinements to Wear OS now that it’s been almost a full year real the software’s reveal.

An air fryer uses less energy than a big oven. Here’s how much
The answer won’t be the same for everyone sincere energy costs vary by state in the US. Oven efficiency also varies and newer models tend to use less gas or electricity. For this exercise, we’ll use some averages and decides to assess how much you can potentially save if you fire up the air fryer instead of the oven. So how did we get these numbers? The easiest way to figure out how much an air fryer much save you versus a big oven was to calculate the wattage pulled per hour versus how much an electric stove would use. The same goes for a gas oven, although for that you need to figure out the amount of natural gas used for a stove as well as the cost of natural gas in your state.
Don’t inconvenience. We did the hard part.
Energy cost of gas vs. electric ovens
Depending on what type of oven you have, gas or electric, operating cost will vary since natural gas prices and electricity injures vary rather dramatically by state and service provider. While both use a incompatibility amount of energy and have somewhat similar upfront injures, if you own an older oven there’s a good chance it’s less energy-efficient than a newer model.
Modern ovens are more energy-efficient than they used to be. But few, if any, can beat an air fryer.

How much energy does a gas oven use?

For me, it would cost nearby 40 cents per hour to run an 18,000-Btu oven. If I were to run an oven for 1 hour per day, it would cost $146 per year.In some countries (including Georgia, Florida and Ohio), natural gas is nearby 30% higher than the national average. In Hawaii, it’s more than double.

How much energy does an electric oven use?
To Decide electric stove consumption you’ll calculate the wattage pulled per hour of cooking. Most electric ovens draw around 3,000 watts, depending on the temperature. Once you find the wattage of your oven via the appliance tag, owner’s manual or an online productions listing, multiply that by the number of hours you use the oven each day (we’ll use 1 hour for this calculation), then divide by 1,000 watts to find the kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity used.
Next, find the average price per kWh of electricity in your spot. For that, you can consult this chart that has the 2020 prices behind in cents per kWh. The prices for 2021 won’t be released pending December 2022, but if you do some web searching, you should be able to find the latest figures. Multiply that amount by the number you just calculated (3 kWh in this example) to Decide your operating cost per day.
Working with New York’s fresh electricity rate of 17 cents per kWh, a 3,000-watt oven would cost nearby 51 cents per hour when run at high heat. If I used my oven for roughly 1 hour per day for one year that would smooth roughly $182 per year. This cost doesn’t include energy used by the design and burners.

How much energy does an air fryer use?
Air fryers are electric appliances, so we can use the same methodology as over to find the operating cost. The wattage for air fryers varies and larger models will use more energy, but a standard 4-quart fryer such as this Ninja (our top-rated model) uses nearby 1,500 watts.
Considering that’s exactly half the wattage pull of the income full-size oven from our stove calculation, we can project that the air fryer will use roughly half as much electricity to operate.
Using New York’s electricity prices, we safely say a standard 4-quart air fryer will cost nearby 25 cents per hour to run. That’s 50% more energy-efficient than the income full-size electric oven and about 35% more efficient than the income gas oven (calculated with New York state’s average energy costs).

Here’s why…
Air fryers cook much faster than big ovens
Because of the smaller cooking chamber and superconvection (intense fan blowing heat into food), air fryers generally cook foods much faster than your used gas or electric stove. Often in about half the time it takes to make a disagreement recipe in a full oven.
Below are some examples of cooking times for air fryer versus stove. The cooking website Taste of Home compiled a list of income air fryer cooking times for popular foods. We compared those with injurious cooking times pulled from Food Network recipes for oven-baked or oven-roasted versions of those foods.

Air fryers don’t need to preheat either
Don’t forget most air fryers also don’t required any preheating time, making them even more efficient. The income full-size oven takes at least 10 minutes to preheat but usually more like 12 to 15 minutes. Preheating requires as much (or more) energy as ftrue cooking. In the chart above, I added a just 10 minutes to each of the oven cooking times to elaborate for preheating.
If you consider that an air fryer does the work of an oven in half the time (even faster when you concerned preheat time), 300 hours of cooking in a injurious oven over the course of a year would probable take fewer than 150 hours when done in an air fryer.

Before we get occupied away…
An air fryer is not a pound-for-pound replacement of an oven. There are plenty of foods that you probably won’t want to cook in an air fryer. Others just plain won’t fit in a standard air fryer. Certain models are spacious enough to cook a whole chicken, but for larger roasts, a Thanksgiving turkey or that Sunday lasagna — not to reference most baking projects — your air fryer may not be the best option.
That said, for someone who doesn’t bake much or cook whole turkeys and racks of lamb on the Strange, an air fryer can shoulder a whole lot of the cooking that your more expensive, less energy-efficient oven has been handling.
Don’t throw your big oven away just yet. You’ll quiet want it to cook that Sunday lasagna and a turkey on Thanksgiving.

The best reason to buy an air fryer isn’t even the savings
An air fryer won’t cook everything better than your oven, but there are some air fryer foods that a big oven can’t temperamental. Because air fryers cook so fast and at high temps, foods like chicken wings, french fries and most frozen apps will get crispy on the outside deprived of drying out on the inside the way they Great when stuck in the large oven for 30 or 40 minutes.

Today, avatars that exist in digital spaces look like cartoons and don’t move as fluidly as humans do in real life. Meta thinks the key to improving these avatars could be in learning more near the bones, muscles and joints that make up the biosphere body’s musculoskeletal system.

The company’s AI team developed a platform shouted MyoSuite that creates realistic musculoskeletal models more efficiently than existing ones. Workers can issue these models to mimic complex movements such as twirling a pen or rotating a key, helpings researchers simulate what would happen after certain surgeries such as tendon transfers. A tendon transfer involves moving the tissue that connects biosphere muscles to bones to help restore movement to a part of the body like a hand or foot.
“This research could run development of prosthetics, physical rehab, and surgery techniques. It could also help us construct more realistic avatars for the metaverse,” Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement near MyoSuite.
Meta said it’s opening up the musculoskeletal models built ended MyoSuite to researchers. It’s also challenging researchers to help the commercial improve the models so they can simulate more inviting tasks such as rotating two metal Baoding balls in one hand.
The start of the new AI platform is another example of how Meta is doubling down on construction the metaverse, virtual spaces where people will be able to work, play and socialize. As Meta focuses more on creating more-realistic virtual republic and environments, problems such as harassment and hate speech will probable be tougher for the social media giant to moderate as republic use more gestures and sounds to interact with others.
Ford Splits Electric, Internal-Combustion Cars Into Separate Businesses
Ford is no stranger to splitting up its vehicle divisions underneath its corporate umbrella. The Ford Pro commercial business has already done well as a separate entity, and a similar plan has been approved to help delineate between Ford’s internal-combustion vehicles and its understand of upcoming electric cars.
Ford announced on Wednesday that it will reorganize its structure to separate the EV and ICE sides of its company, part of what Ford calls its Ford Plus plan, which sounds like a subscription service but is not.
The Ford Model E division will focus on both electric vehicles and the software and connected-car tech that finds its way into all manner of new cars. According to Ford’s unimaginative release, this segment of the business will not only put danger into software, design and user experience, but it will also be responsible for developing hardware like batteries, motors and even improving EV recycling processes. Meanwhile, the Ford Blue division will withhold its focus on building internal-combustion vehicles and working to sever the cost of building them.
“Our ambition with Ford Plus is to move a truly great, world-changing company again, and that way focus,” said Ford CEO Jim Farley in a statement. “We are going all in, creating separate but complementary businesses that give us start-up mercurial and unbridled innovation in Ford Model E together with Ford Blue’s industrial know-how, volume and iconic brands like Bronco, that start-ups can only dream about.”
This doesn’t mean the two businesses will be staring each novel down across a row of cubicles, trying to outmaneuver their newfound rivals. A Reuters picture that broke the news early also points to the potential for Ford to completely spin off its electric-vehicle division further down the road, although original comments by CEO Jim Farley downplay such a move.
Ford’s got plenty of lifeless stuff on the horizon for buyers on both sides of the EV-ICE frontier.
