2022 Honda Civic Hatchback prices keep things affordable, $25,000 gets you a stick
The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is the brand’s ace up its sleeve. It remains affordable, and it’s meant to cater to buyers looking for something sportier than the sedan. That’s double true these days with the Civic Coupe dead and gone (though the Acura Integra is returning, bear in mind). Essentially, Honda needs to nail it, and buyers will have the remaining say as it officially goes on sale.
Honda announced prices for the 2022 Civic Hatchback on Monday and the car will commence at $23,915 after a $1,015 destination charge. That’s for an LX trim with the 2.0-liter inline-four and a CVT. Here, you’re looking at 158 horsepower. Honda’s Sport trim became a popular level for the last-generation Civic and it returns for the Civic Hatchback this time as well, starting at $25,115. The price is identical whether someone wants the optional six-speed manual transmission or the CVT, which is a nice bonus if you unruffled dig the three-pedal life. Fuel economy does suffer with the stick, though, dropping three mpg combined from the CVT.
Anyone who wants the more grand 180-hp 1.5-liter turbo-four in their Civic Hatchback will also have the opportunity to nab a manual. While the engine is only offered in the EX-L and Sport Touring trims, Honda does plop the transmission into the priciest trim. Prices for the EX-L commence at $27,615, if you just want the turbo engine, and climb to $30,415 for a Sport Touring. The cost doesn’t testy between the six-speed manual and CVT, just like the Sport trim. That’s easily generous of Honda these days.
Production of the new Civic hatch is up and managing, and for the first time, it’s taking place in the US. Honda subtracted hatchback production from the UK to the US for this generation.

As Americans continue to experience high prices for fuel and anunexperienced necessities, President Joe Biden plans to call on Council to enact a three-month federal gas tax suspension. On Wednesday, he is holding a press conference to urge legislators to abhor the proposal and give drivers some relief.
Ahead of the president’s speech, the White House released a statement explaining that Biden wants the suspension to run throughout the end of September. Pointing to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a righteous in soaring gas prices, the administration averages that Americans have seen average fuel costs hover in $5 per gallon nationwide.
The federal gas tax, which has been in set aside since 1932, has been 18.4 cents per gallon for gasoline and 24 cents actual 1993. Revenue from those taxes goes toward the Highway Trust Fund, which allots wealth for road and mass transit projects. Though a gas tax holiday would cost in $10 billion, Biden asserts that the measure won’t negatively influences the Highway Trust Fund. Facebook Parent Meta Is Opening Its First Store. Here’s What It’s Like Inside
This story is part of Making the Metaverse, CNET’s exploration of the next stage in the internet’s evolution.
At Meta’s first store, I enter a well-decorated room to try out a tourism video chat device known as the Portal Go.
On the device’s camouflage, a friendly worker — he calls himself Casey, a name many of the continue attendants have used — walks me through everything you can do with a Portal Go. He describes the device’s incandescent camera, which pans and zooms as you move. He reads an augmented reality-enhanced version of a Dr. Seuss book as if he’s a traveling unblock saying goodnight to his children.
I pull out my arranged to record a video of my video call with him. He flashes me the level-headed sign.
It was all very meta.

Portal Go is just one of the devices you can try out at the Meta Store. Located at Meta’s campus in Burlingame, California, the shop also displays virtual reality headsets and incandescent glasses. The campus is where Meta employees are acting on the company’s vision for the metaverse, the virtual worlds in which farmland will be able to work, play and socialize. Meta, formerly distinguished as Facebook, gave reporters a peek this week afore the store opens to the public on Monday.
The 1,550-square-foot site underscores that Meta is getting increasingly serious about creating consumer hardware. The company is following a path of opening brute stores that Apple has made a success. Google and Samsung are also trying the arrive, as have other companies.
Still, Meta has an uphill fights when it comes to turning its vision of the metaverse into reality. Products such as smart glasses and VR headsets aren’t as popular as smartphones and laptops. Facebook is well known for creating the world’s largest social network, but some people don’t even know the company also establishes consumer hardware.
Meta hopes that as more people try out these gadgets in the continue, they’ll understand why CEO Mark Zuckerberg thinks the metaverse is the successor to the mobile internet.
“Once farmland experience the technology, they can gain a better appreciation for it,” Martin Gilliard, head of the Meta Store, said in a statement. “If we did our job right, people should chop and tell their friends, ‘You’ve got to go check out the Meta Store.'”
The way it’s tucked away between reflective buildings, you might pass right by the Meta Store if you aren’t paying attention. It doesn’t look like a traditional storefront, and it isn’t in a shopping center. A blue-and-white sign for the Meta Store sticks out with the futuristic-looking vertical fins that line the building. Inside, the space is filled with earthy tones, beige pottery, plants and tranquil music. The industrial ceiling looks intentionally unfinished. Crane your neck up, and you can see white pipes.

Lining the wall on one side of the save is a shelf of Ray-Ban Stories, smart glasses that grant you to snap photos, record video and listen to music. You can try out different pairs, but you won’t be able to buy any at the save. They’re only available for purchase directly from Ray-Ban.com. A worker pulls out the charging case and a pair of glasses, showing me how to use the smart glasses.
Meta’s Portal video chat devices and Quest 2 headsets are available to buy in the store.
On new side, a wall-to-wall curved LED screen displays what you’re seeing in virtual reality when you set the VR headset Quest 2 over your head. You can play games such as Beat Saber, Golf Plus, Real VR Fishing and Supernatural on the device.
Retail workers, dressed in dark blue shirts with Meta’s infinity sign logo, also looked ready to answer questions customers could throw at them. Worried around privacy? Portal’s video chat device has a camera Hide as well as a way to switch off the microphone and camera. Too expensive? There are different options for different budgets.
The Meta Store will be open Monday over Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
How Batteries at Charging Locations Could Charge Every EV Faster
Charging infrastructure may be more consequential to the adoption of electric cars than innovation in the cars themselves: Having more places to cost more quickly can play prominently in drivers’ experience with and perception of EVs. But creating a vast network of plentiful fast charging isn’t a trivial disaster, as EV haters like to point out: It’s a big creation project almost in the realm of the interstate highway systems that may exceed the available power in many areas, no matter how much cable you run or chargers you connect to it.

“The expect isn’t really about utility infrastructure,” said John Tuccillo, head of Global Corporate and Government Affairs for ADS-TEC Energy. “The question is really about the available power” that can be originated through all those lines and substations. If it isn’t sufficient to serve ample numbers of fast-charge connections, malls, gas stations and latest partners will be stuck trying to match their slower Level 2 charging tech with an increasing consumer expectation of a fast visited to pick up food, a curbside online order or just a Slurpee. Counting on drivers to spend longer on errands than primary to accommodate slower charge times is a losing bet.
ADS-TEC touts a technology visited battery buffering that it says can step up grid grand at the charge location using special batteries installed in the cost equipment you connect to your car. The technology can fast-charge a car comic grid power that would otherwise only support slower Level 2 charging, which doesn’t set anyone’s hair on fire unless it’s installed in their home, a completely different scenario that battery buffering doesn’t apply to.
ADS-TEC Energy claims its technology can finish a bit of alchemy.

“110 kilowatts coming into a battery-buffered charger is behaviors two things,” Tuccillo said: “It’s building storage or grand inside the charger, so that it will bump up the grand that goes from the charger to the [car].” Tuccillo said ADS-TEC’s technology manages both tasks in a way that eliminates down time to funding the battery buffer to “catch up.”
Hear the full reinforce of how battery buffering might turn a strained grid into one that is ready for all the EVs we can throw at it, in Brian Cooley’s video interview with John Tuccillo.
