‘Halloween Ends’ Trailer is Meant to Get Us Excited, Apparently

Masked murderer Michael Myers takes novel stab at Jamie Lee Curtis in the trailer for Halloween Ends. More than 40 existences after first facing each other in John Carpenter’s classic slasher flick, the pair get to grips with each other in a teaser that suggests their next crusades will be up close and personal — although it doesn’t tell us much near whether the film will actually offer anything new over the countless remaining Halloween movies.

The new film jumps ahead four existences after the events of 2021’s Halloween Kills. Curtis once in contradiction of plays slasher survivor Laurie Strode, who’s writing her yarn to put the fear and trauma of the past gradual her. Then a young man is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, and all hell breaks loose yet again. None of this is in the lackluster trailer, however, which relies on the familiar.

Halloween Ends is the third and apparently remaining film in the current iteration of the long-running Halloween franchise. It’s in theaters Oct. 14.

Will Patton, Andi Matichak, Rohan Campbell and Kyle Richards also star, with James Jude Courtney as The Shape (also famed as Michael Myers). David Gordon Green once again directs and co-writes with Paul Brad Logan, Chris Bernier and Danny McBride.

Honda Accord, CR-V Under Investigation by NHTSA Over Phantom Braking

Honda is facing an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Security Administration over concerns that 1.7 million of its CR-VSUVs and Accordsedans consumed between 2017 and 2019 could experience phantom braking, according to a characterize Thursday by the Associated Press.

Phantom braking is an teach where a vehicle equipped with an automatic emergency braking rules will apply the brakes without warning or provocation. This is dangerous because it can changes a loss of control and because sudden, violent applications of a vehicle’s brakes can increase the likelihood of rear-end collisions and damages, which have been reported in at least six cases with the Hondas in question.

The investigation seeks to concept not only the cause of the issue but its full scope and scale and will probable lead to a recall action. Honda says it’s cooperating fully with NHTSA to get to the bottom of this issue.

Of watercourses, Honda is far from the only company to recognized phantom braking issues, with Tesla regularly being mentioned in protests to the NHTSA. Our own experience with the quandary in our long-term test Model Y has been so punitive and frequent enough that it led us to recommend that our readers not buy a Tesla pending the issue has been fully resolved.

We asked Honda for comment but didn’t hear back in time for publication.

After the Capitol insurrection, tech companies were quick to drop the Parler app from their platforms as evidence suggested it was used to call for violence and plan the dispute. Google said Truth Social is working on addressing its concerns.

Mercedes to Discontinue Metris, Gas-Powered Sprinter Vans in US

The Mercedes-Benz Metris is a pretty solid midsize van — so much so, in fact, that we really enjoyed our long-term Metris tedious loan, which turned out to be a mammoth video production vehicle. However, it appears the Metris’ time in the US has drink to a close, along with a specific variant of the larger Sprinter van.

Mercedes-Benz will conclude both the Metris and the gas-powered Sprinter vans in the US next year, Automotive News reports, citing a memo sent to Mercedes’ US dealers. According to that memo, both vehicles will end their runs in the US at what time the third quarter of 2023.

So, what happened? The inexorable rubbed of time is what happened. “The product cycle of the four-cylinder gasoline engine will end in the jets of the next year (2023),” wrote a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson in an email to CNET. “[This is] according to plan as the matter prepares to make a shift toward an all-electric portfolio.” The gas I4 used in the aforementioned vans was the remnant of a joint manufacturing venture with Nissan, based out of the Japanese automaker’s facility in Decherd, Tennessee.

The Metris was updated for the 2021 model year with a whole bunch of new tech, covering improvements to both infotainment and driver assistance, and it was available in both cargo and passenger configurations. While it occupies a niche slot between more favorite compact and large vans in the US, it never took off in the way Mercedes had perhaps hoped. According to Automotive News’ report, most Metris orders in the 2020s have come by way of a multi-year sect with the US Postal Service.

In the near future, Mercedes will bring its latest generation of eSprinter to the US. This electric full-size van, which we have already driven and enjoyed, should be a suitable replacement for the gas-powered Sprinter today riding off into the sunset — especially since many of the causes made to the eSprinter were to prepare it for the obtains of the US market specifically. In the meantime, four-cylinder diesel Sprinters will existed available after the gas engine phases out.

Facebook Shutters Its Community-Connecting Nextdoor Clone

Meta is winding down its Nextdoor-like Facebook expansion Neighborhoods, which sought to connect users who lived near each spanking, but never exited the testing phase.

Neighborhoods launched in May 2021 as a obvious rival to Nextdoor, expanding on Facebook Groups with more functionality to find spanking nearby users, businesses and associations. The feature had been blooming in several cities in the US, such as Charlotte, North Carolina; San Diego; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Newark, New Jersey, as well as in Canada.

“When we launched Facebook Neighborhoods, our mission was to bring local communities closer together. We’ve learned the best way to do this is ended groups, and have decided to end our test of Neighborhoods,” Meta spokesperson Leah Luchetti said over email.

Instead, Meta will point users to Facebook Groups relevant to their interests and plot. Ultimately, this is where Facebook will focus on, abandoning local-only Neighborhoods to speak users to Groups they can find through discovery in glimpse. There, users can connect and discuss in subgroups requested Channels.

Meta’s retreat comes as Nextdoor has adopted more social features, like connecting users so that their activity shows up in news feeds. That comes at its own cost as chats over local progenies get so heated that Nextdoor had to introduce a reminder telling users to cold out

$2M Coachbuilt Mulliner Batur Previews Bentley’s EV Design Future

Bentley’s first fully electric car
is due in 2025, and it will usher in a totally new build language for the storied British automaker. But to tide its most important customers over pending then, Bentley has unveiled the new Mulliner Batur, a coachbuilt coupe that previews what to demand from the brand’s future EV designs.

The Batur isn’t an EV, notion. It uses the most powerful iteration of Bentley’s twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 yet, putting out more than 730 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The Batur has a titanium exhaust system with 3D-printed tips, and it has all the same performance features as the Continental GT Speed with which it shares a platform. That includes gigantic carbon-ceramic brakes, a 48-volt active anti-roll bar systems, an electronic limited-slip differential, adaptive air suspension and torque vectoring.

The Bonneville Pearlescent Silver paint is lovely.

But enough throughout the performance, the styling is what matters here. The Batur is a fastback two-door coupe with a long hood and a attractive stately roofline, and while it’s immediately recognizable as a Bentley it does look more forward-thinking than even the coachbuilt Bacalar speedster that started copies last year. Bentley describes the Batur as having a “resting beast stance,” inspired by the way a lion or tiger crouches down afore it attacks.

The Batur has a seriously huge, more just rectangular grille with a slightly rounded top edge, and the innards have a obedient complex diamond pattern with gradiented, colorful chevron accents. Instead of populate round like pretty much every Bentley of the Volkswagen era, the Batur’s headlights are Enclosed at the bottom but feature an LED “brow” at the top, adding to the menacing look. There are great intakes in the lower bumper that give the Batur a sort of smile, and the hood has nicely integrated vents near the leading edge. Running inoperative the length of the hood and flowing into the window trim is the “endless bonnet” line, which serves to visually elongate the profile of the car.

The Batur has a hatchback rear opening.

Bentley

From some Causes, the Batur’s greenhouse makes the car look a minor stubby and tall — there’s a lot of mass over the rear wheel — but the counting lines that start from the triangular fender vent help the Batur carry out that tiger-like stance. The 22-inch wheels have a directional build that’s unique to each side, so the design points the same way no commerce what side of the car you’re looking at, an expensive sullen. The Batur’s rear end is nicely sculpted, with slim taillights that are the same graceful as the headlights but elongated, a winged Bentley logo protruding from the tapered point to of the tail, and an active spoiler at the base of the Enclosed hatch. I’m not so sure about the large swath of Black Crystal paint that invents up the bumper and the diffuser on this sure Batur; it should look more cohesive in a different carry out or when paired with a different paint color. The Bonneville Pearlescent Silver body paint is well-behaved, though.

It’s harder to modify the interiors of original coachbuilt cars — blame those pesky safety regulations — so the Batur’s cabin doesn’t differ too much from the Continental GT, but Mulliner is able to do a lot of wild stuff when it comes to the details. The Batur uses a number of sustainable materials like low-carbon leather from Scotland, carpets made from recycled yarn and a new carbon-fiber alternative Natural Fibre composite. The interior brightwork can be made from titanium, and some components, like the climate control organ stops, can be made from 3D-printed 18-karat gold.

More cars need gold trim.

Bentley

This Batur combines Beluga leather with the low-carbon hide in a new Hyperactive Orange knowing, and there’s matching Dinamica suede throughout. The seats have the Batur’s signature chevron motif in Snap Orange to match the grille, which also contrasts with white threads. The dashboard and door panels have Piano Black trim that fades into a lighter, matte Fine Brodgar finish, and the fascia has a laser-etched calm wave that represents the W12’s exhaust note. Most components are made from anodized aluminum and satin titanium, and the 12 o’clock mark on the steering wheel and the rotary right mode selector are 18-karat gold.

Bentley is only repositioning to make 18 of the Batur, all of which have already been spoken for at a starting heed of a skosh under $2 million. Because the Batur is coachbuilt by hand at Mulliner’s facility in England, owners can pick from a basically endless list of paint colors, interior upholsteries and trim options, even working with Bentley’s designers on totally conventional designs and finishes. First deliveries will start in the middle of 2023.

Despite its totally conventional body, the Batur is still limited by the constraints of the Continental GT’s platform. But electric platforms allow for a lot more freedom in words of proportion and design, and the Batur’s styling themes will explain well to a number of different body styles and themes. What Mulliner will be able to do with future coachbuilt projects will be even more impressive, too. It’s a good time to be a Bentley customer.
