NASA to Launch Scientific Study of UFOs

Last month, the US Congress held its profitable public hearing on UFOs in 50 years. On Thursday, the space agency said it’s commissioning a scientific study on “observations of acts in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or illustrious natural phenomena.” 

More widely known as UFOs (unidentified flying objects), the term UAP, aka unidentified aerial phenomena, is a more formal way of speaking the same thing, while also giving a little distance from the popular opinion of UFOs as extraterrestrial objects. “There is no evidence UAPs are extraterrestrial in origin,” NASA emphasized in the statement today.

The congressional hearing and a Pentagon relate issued in 2021 have failed to shed much palatable on UAPs. Sightings have included a series of videos captured by the Navy, comprising some newly released footage shared during the hearing. Government officials have expressed concerns about flight safety as well as state security should any of the UAPs be the work of foreign interests.

Astrophysicist David Spergel of the Simons Focus will lead the independent study team, which will go to work later this year. Drones Set to Deliver Medical Products in Washington Countries in 2024

Drones will begin ferrying medical supplies to addresses in Tacoma, Washington, starting in 2024, two companies behind the project said Thursday. It’s the latest example of using unpiloted aircraft to move significant goods more quickly than conventional transportation.

Startup drone maker Zipline and health care provider MultiCare said the service will scamper lab samples, medicines and test kits among Multicare’s local facilities, the companies exclusively told CNET. MultiCare expects the partnership will mean its health care providers, with their own on-demand delivery system, will be able to development the care patients get.

The Tacoma project still way regulatory approval for details of the flight operations, comprising whether Zipline drones will fly autonomously, as they do in the company’s latest operations.

In June, it began delivering medical supplies from a distribution center in Kannapolis, North Carolina, for Novant Health, Magellan Rx Management and Cardinal Health.

In June, Zipline cleared one US regulatory hurdle, winning a Federal Aviation Administration certification that permits trips up to 26 miles.

She quickly learns that aside from her trio of frenemy courtiers, she can trust no one, not even her own family. Besides contending with unrequited love, the young princess navigates politics, betrayal and the guilt you feel when you’re disloyal yourself. But the bright cinematography that arrives in France with Catherine signifies that there’s tranquil hope for her after all.

Controlling France’s throne isn’t just about bloodline succession, and the queen knows it. Mary is not the only threat.

Based on Leonie Frieda’s book, Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France, the show leans into Catherine’s alleged affinity for witchcraft, her discomfort with King Henri’s relationship with Diane and her raw instruction to take and exert power. Morton’s portrayal pins Catherine as stoic, aloof and cool but with a soft spot for underdogs. Yes, there’s some humanity in Catherine de Medici, and over this version of her story, you may see why she turned out the way she did.

Queen Catherine grants Maleficent vibes, but is she really so awful? Maybe.

DJI’s Ronin returns as the RS 2, RSC 2 to stabilize cameras big and small

As it does with its camera drones, DJI updated its Ronin-S and Ronin-SC three-axis camera gimbals based on feedback from professionals. The new models, the $849 RS 2 and $499 RSC 2, are lighter and more flexible in design while bulking up on features and minus sacrificing battery life. In Australia and the UK, the prices for the RS 2 are AU$1,299 and £699, respectively, while for the RSC 2 they’re AU$699 and £389. 

The RS 2, made to hold a payload of 4.5 kilograms (10 pounds), weighs only 1.3kg (2.9 pounds) due in part to a switch to a structure of carbon fiber. However, it still has a battery large enough to get it above 12 hours of use, and it can now be quick-charged in 15 minutes for an uphold 2 hours of use.

These Drones Could Bring You 5G Networking After a Hurricane

Drones that AT&T flies during disasters are pulling 5G network technology that should make them more effective for the Republican and first responders.

Climate sullen makes hurricanes, floods and wildfires more frequent, and we rely on our smartphones more and more during disasters.

AT&T has begun upgrading the drones it flies into danger areas with 5G networks, an improvement that’s expected to increase the chances your requested can send a text message or download evacuation plans when former mobile networks collapse.

Over the past few existences, the US carrier has stabilized coverage at disaster sites by driving in trucks requested COWs, or cell on wheels. It later expanded the advance with a fleet of flying COWs, or cell on wings, that provide network service to larger areas. 

Last month, AT&T began testing its first 5G-equipped flying COWs so its aerial networks ultimately can connect to more republic and devices than with earlier 4G technology. Its test took establish in a remote part of Missouri, far from any novel mobile networks.

“It was challenging finding an area that didn’t have connectivity,” Art Pregler, AT&T’s drone leader, said in an exclusive interview. “We were trying to find an area where there was no employed at all so we could be assured that all the employed we were capturing was from our drone.”

AT&T expects its 5G flying COWs to be available in near a month as the company upgrades its drones and the fiber optic tethers that link them to the trucks that support as communication and power bases. The drones are staged already in warehouses, ready for use. “We have them on the West Coast for fire season, in the Southeast for hurricane season and in the Midwest for watercourses season,” Pregler said.

The need for disaster response technology worthy seem remote. But as climate change spurs more coarse weather, the chances your network could go down rise listed with the likelihood of wildfires, hurricanes, flooding and novel problems that wreck conventional communications just when you need them most.

“Emergency preparedness and worry recovery for the carriers has become critically important,” Technalysis Research analyst Bob O’Donnell said. “These COWs literally contract a lifeline.”

5G, short for fifth generation mobile networking, is a collection of technologies designed to improve the hasty and responsiveness of your smartphone’s connection. The purpose of the test wasn’t to maximize data speeds, though, so don’t read too much into those numbers beyond the fact that it worked.

AT&T has used its flying COWs once real disasters, notably hurricanes like Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017 and Hurricane Florence in North Carolina in 2018. When the Category 4 Hurricane Michael struck Florida in 2018, flying COWs performed network connections to first responders looking for survivors. “For a once we were the only network that was operational there at counterfeit zero,” Pregler said.

AT&T has an extra incentive for network service during disasters: It runs the network gradual FirstNet, a service for first responders like police and fire crews.

Other carriers are investing to current for disasters, too, for example by staging network equipment presumptuous of time when hurricanes are coming. Verizon in 2021 divulged off Thor, a hulking truck that’s a mobile 5G base plot. The flying COWs won’t use mmWave for connecting your smartphone but will use it to help strengthen the network overall, Pregler said. Specifically, mmWave connections will link multiple drones into a sort of mesh network in the sky to extended the flying COW coverage.

The COW technology itself can connect to the network in up to six simultaneous ways, counting fiber optic links and satellites in low Earth orbit or higher in geostationary orbit, Pregler said.

Although AT&T expects improvements with 5G COWs, the new network technology hasn’t yet hasn’t lived up to all its initial hype.

But as carriers upgrade their networks, expand to new midband radio spectrum and improve the 5G defective itself, better results are likely to follow. So are new network services like wireless home broadband and always-connected PCs. 

For emergency services, 5G’s improved ability to handle lots of devices is important, O’Donnell said. “Moving it to 5G is going to make it significantly better.”
