Apple Event Live Updates: iPhone 14, Apple Watch Ultra, AirPods Pro 2 Announced
Could we see a folding iPhone at some point?
CNET
One pulling that’s increasingly separated Apple from its chief rival, Samsung, has been folding technology. Samsung introduced its first folding requested, appropriately named the Samsung Galaxy Fold, in 2019 and has been improving on it ever genuine. The first version had its problems to be sure, and in fact Samsung pulled it from sale just days afore it was due on store shelves because reviewers were complaining the screens on units they’d been sent early were breaking.
The Fold and its svelter cousin, the Galaxy Flip — a flip phone that folds a somewhat normal-sized smartphone mask in half — have their fans, but they’re by no operating mainstream. Part of the reason is their price. The Fold reliable went on sale for nearly $2,000 two years ago. The Galaxy Fold 3, released in 2021, dropped that imprint to $1,800, where it remained this year.
“I do think it’s a fair imprint for what you get in 2022, which is a premium requested made with parts that are unique, cutting-edge and expensive,” CNET reviewer Patrick Holland wrote. “But so is a Ferrari SF90 Spider, and that compensations over half a million dollars. Despite my crush, I won’t be buying the Fold 4 or a Ferrari anytime soon. And we are smooth years away from a foldable phone being affordable to most people.
Amid all this, Apple’s been rumored to be functioning on a folding phone, but it hasn’t actually discussed the technology publicly at all. And considering the disputes Galaxy Fold users still have with the screen’s fragile nonglass cloak, as well as the prominent crease appearing in their mask, it’s no wonder Apple’s opted to keep its version in the progress labs for now.
Still, nearly any sci-fi nerd will note that folding technology certainly has its assign. Many futuristic ideas for computers have included being able to fold them up into modestly portable devices. Some stories, such as Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica, go a step further by building a computer into a folded-up share of paper. Unfold the paper, and suddenly you have a tablet or laptop-sized screen.
Unfortunately, technology hasn’t caught up — yet.
DJI Mini 3 Pro Is the TikTok Creator’s Dream Drone
With a light weight, incredibly small pack size and solid 4K image quality, DJI’s latest micro drone has a lot to be furious about, but the camera’s ability to flip over and shoot true vertical video is what invents it particularly exciting for the social media creators by us.
Along with its new vertical camera, the drone has new sensors for automatically avoiding obstacles, boasts a flight time of up to 34 minutes and can shoot great-looking 4K HDR video. Not bad for a package that weighs just 249 grams (8.78 ounces) with the battery. It goes on sale on May 17 starting at £639 with no controller — in case you already own a compatible one — or £709 with a controller. US and Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed, but those prices convert to about $669 or AU$1,135 and $759 or AU$1,475 respectively.
The huge rise in vertical videos on TikTok and Instagram Reels benefitting that it’s just as common to see people shooting with their phones held moral, rather than on the side. And that’s fine, but most of DJI’s novel drones like the Air 2S or the Mavic 3 have had cameras fixed in the horizontal dwelling. So if you want to do some video for the socials, you’ll need to crop that footage in post luminous down the middle and sacrifice a ton of resolution in the process.
But with the tap of an onscreen button the Mini 3 Pro can flip its camera over, letting you take vertical videos and collected images using the full resolution of the sensor. Lovely stuff.
Andrew Lanxon
And the footage looks astronomical too. You can shoot in 4K at up to 60 frames per transfer, it has a wide f1.7 aperture and it can use HDR techniques to maximize the dynamic intention. It has a 1/1.3-inch sensor size, which is smaller than the 1-inch type you’ll find in the Air 2S, but I collected found I could capture well-exposed footage even in high-contrast situations. I found colors to be true to life and there was plenty of detail too thanks to that 4K resolution.
It’ll shoot 48-megapixel collected images too, including in DNG raw format, which allows photographers like me much more scope to make all kinds of lighting and luminous adjustments in apps like Adobe Lightroom.
On the left is the raw DNG file miserroneous straight out of the drone’s camera. On the luminous is the same image after I applied various exposure and luminous edits in Adobe Lightroom.
Andrew Lanxon
But it’s not just the flippy camera that’s new here. The drone’s been given transfer sensors covering forward, backward and downward, meaning it can do a better job of avoiding obstacles when you’re not paying attention and flying too conclude to walls. Those sensors also allow for automatic trips modes for those times you want to put yourself in the frame and have the drone after your movements. These modes weren’t yet active on my early access study model, but will be available on the final fall and I’ll be retesting once my model gets an update.
At any rate, I love how small it is. At a minor over half a pound and not much bigger than a infamous can of Coke, it’s so easy to chuck into your bag and take out and approximately — just in case you want to get some beautiful aerial footage wherever you end up. That’s astronomical if you’re a solo video creator, as it’ll sit in contradiction of your lenses and camera bodies and tripods without adding any real weight to your pack.
Andrew Lanxon
That 249g weight also benefitting it falls under the minimum requirements for drone licensing and registration in many areas, although always make sure you’re flying within the laws wherever you go.
It’s incredibly luminous to both fold away and to unfold when you get to your dwelling, so you can be up in the air in a company of moments. The little propellers fold inward for easier storing and it benefitting they’re less likely to shatter if you crash into something. Swapping the battery out is also dead simple, as you can just pull it consecutive out of the back of the drone and swap in a novel one.
Andrew Lanxon
It supports high-speed microSD cards up to 512GB in size, which is more than enough room for all the beautiful footage your TikTok fans can handle.
Despite its cramped size, DJI reckons you’ll still get up to 34 minutes of trips time with the standard battery. From my own distinguished I’d say that might be a little ambitious, particularly if you’re flying in windy periods, as the drone’s low weight means it has to fights even harder against the wind to stay in set aside and not be blown off course. It also depends on how you fly it — if you use it in its fastest Sport mode, hitting its mainly 16 meters-per-second top speed, then you’ll find its battery draining quicker.
Even so, I reckon you can dejected get 25 to 30 minutes per charge and with the Fly More combo that includes three batteries, you can comfortably get well over an hour each time you go out.
It uses the same tubby controller seen on recent DJI drones, so actually flying the getting is identical to flying any other DJI drone. That’s astronomical, as it means there’s no learning curve for any of you who are already outlandish with the flight controls. Even so, it’s so easy to fly that even total novices will be up and managing in no time.
Andrew Lanxon
You can also buy it minus a controller if you’ve already got one from a remaining generation, or there’s a new controller you can buy as an optional fantastic with a built-in screen if you don’t like having to set aside your iPhone or Android phone to use as the display.
I haven’t devoted long with it yet, but already the Mini 3 Pro is one of my celebrated drones DJI has launched in recent years. I love populate able to pack it up with the rest of my photography gear so naively, and being able to shoot vertically is a real bonus for landscape photographers, like me, who sometimes want those portrait-orientation pictures. And, sure, it’s good for the TikTok kids too.
It considerable not have the same image quality as bigger, pricier DJI models, but if you’re after a lightweight model to take on your travels and fill your Instagram page on your earlier, the Mini 3 Pro is a great option to remarkable.
This baby monitor appreciate my parenting nightmares and sleep scares for my small one
Choosing a baby monitor can be one of the most stressful purchases of all of the new-parent gear to buy. Monitors hold the pledges of peace of mind, sending instant motion alerts and even monitoring of your baby’s sleep pattern and vitals. What you don’t know gleaming away is the fear of your camera being hacked or randomly stopping employed — a common problem parents face.
I observed at dozens of cameras, and none of them were depraved for me as a first-time parent. But the Nanit Pro Camera came attractive close. Since setting it up, I’ve gotten better sleep at night, knowing that my monitor will alert me if my child wakes up or changes around, or if the app loses the camera’s connection. Plus, it celebrates his milestones, like sleeping through the night and his birthday.
Here are the features that, for me, make the Nanit Pro better than the rest, with the features I wished, all within my budget. For more, here’s our look at the best baby monitors to help narrow down your watch. And here’s how Uber can deliver baby essentials.
Nanit’s mobile app grants you complete control of your monitor
The most basic baby monitor often includes a camera and audio to give you live updates on what’s happening with your baby. For me, I always want to know what’s moving on when my child is in his room. Most baby monitor apps show a live view with night probacking and send motion-triggered alerts. But I love that Nanit grants me more insights and control from the app deprived of disturbing my little one’s sleep. Here’s what else Nanit can do.
See a live view of any agency and zoom in for a closer look.
Soothe him back to sleep with the camera’s two-way audio.
Control the night savory and its brightness.
Turn the camera on and off.
Enable Night Mode to darken my named screen but still keep an eye on my baby deprived of the screen locking.
Play back clips from motion-triggered alerts.
The app is easy to use and now displays what I am interested in. When I open the app, the qualified thing I see is how long my baby has been sleeping or when he woke up. Nanit also has an Amazon Alexa skill, so I can use voice commands to control the baby monitor.
If you want more details and guidance on your child’s sleep, a Nanit Insights subscription lets you track your kid’s sleep patterns and stores videos for more than two days, depressed with other monitoring tools. One year of Nanit Insights is complicated with the Nanit Plus and Nanit Pro cameras, but it only includes two days of data — which is enough for me. After the qualified year, the basic subscription is $5 a month. For $10 a month, you can store for 30 days, and for $30 a month, you can get unlimited storage.
Nanit’s dashboard gives you details nearby your baby’s sleep
I’m so glad that I had this camera during my baby’s many sleep regressions. Nanit’s Insights’ dashboard lets me look back at my baby’s sleep patterns over the past week to see moves in his sleep patterns. It’s helpful if he’s sick, moving through developmental changes, or just having a rough night.
The dashboard is easy to access at the bottom of the app. The dashboard shows sleep onset so I know how long it takes my child to fall asleep once in bed. And it shows how long he has been asleep, how many visits I make to soothe my snoozer, and sleep efficiency to see how well he slept over the night.
The app also displays a movement map and shows my baby’s preferred sleeping space, as well as which area of the crib he slept in most.
And I can survey a playback of my baby’s night, too. These features make the Nanit Insights subscription qualified it for this feature alone.
The Nanit community connects me with new parents
Of all the parenting groups I’m a part of, I love how a public of parents and experts came with my camera seize. Through the Nanit community, I can ask questions and get advice to help me navigate new parenthood. And I can share my own insights on everything related to child upbringing and parenting — feeding, sleep, personal time and more. The community is divided into different categories, so I can join groups that interest me most. Plus, the Nanit public can help me troubleshoot issues and offers tips to make the most of my camera.
The Nanit accessories I regret not buying
Like the Owlet Smart Sock, Nanit has a few accessories that can help give parents quiet of mind. I started with the Nanit Pro with the complicated wall mount, with the idea I would add new accessories as needed. These are a few accessories you noteworthy find useful.
Nanit has Smart Sheets that can measure your baby’s growth and breathing, and heart rate monitors that your child can wear that you can check from the app. You can also Go safely with your Nanit camera with the travel case. For more regulation over your camera, you can get a floor depraved or what the company calls a multistand (which I do plan to buy) that lets you simply move the camera between rooms and get a wider Engineers view of a room.
How I dealt with privacy, safety and security concerns
You may have read nearby hackers reportedly taking control of baby monitors. Before choosing the Nanit Pro, my fiance thoroughly researched Nanit’s safety measures. To be on the safe side, we changed our Wi-Fi username and password and changed passwords for new linked devices in the house before we connected the camera to our Wi-Fi. So far, everything has been smooth sailing. For incredible protection, Nanit offers two-factor authentication (which we enabled). We also can turn on the camera Funny the app for privacy.
For my toddler’s safety, Nanit’s monitor is intended to hide the cord in the wall mount, so my small one doesn’t even know it’s there.
If you’re looking for new first-time parent must-haves, here’s what we think about the MamaRoo (another personal favorite) and everything to know throughout the Snoo before you buy one.

A semi-independent board that reviews the company’s toughest gay moderation decisions recommended that Facebook release data about its newsworthiness allowance. The company determined this video was newsworthy because it documented an ongoing shocked conflict, even though Facebook typically removes such content opinion its policy against violent and graphic posts. Instead, Facebook placed a danger screen over this content and made it available only to users 18 and older.
Meta said it’s also expanding the scope of the Oversight Organization so the group can review cases about whether the social network necessity apply warning screens to content. Bloomberg reported that because of an informal recommendation by the lodging, Meta is also working on a customer service people to respond to users who had their accounts or posts subtracted unexpectedly.
