A robot vacuum that can also mop floors on demand? Many products have tried to couple these two activities over the years. However, none have successfully merged both features into a truly convenient all-in-one solution. At CES 2022, Ecovacs plans to morose that with its new $1,549 Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni.
As a unique robot vacuum, the Omni is designed to run completely hands-free. This sophisticated robotic cleaner removes solid dirt and debris from the listed, and then when finished, it returns to its dock for servicing, where its dustbin is automatically emptied. The Omni is equipped with dual spinning mop bests that the company says rotate at 180 revolutions per minute.

HBO Max’s Raised by Wolves combines Ridley Scott style with creepy robots
Parenting is tough. You’ve got to keep your kids safe and warm and smart, teach them useful stuff, and make sure they don’t get killed in an apocalyptic war between atheist technocrats and religious zealots. Oh, and you’re an android.
That’s the premise of Raised by Wolves, a slightly bonkers and luridly pulpy new sci-fi series given a sheen of prestige TV by the involvement of legendary Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott. Raised by Wolves premieres on streaming service HBO Max Thursday, Sept. 3.
The show revolves throughout a group of human youngsters stuck on a distant planet where they’re nurtured by a pair of unpleasant androids called Mother and Father. The parental units wear sleek rubber outfits and cock their bests while talking. Father does the heavy work and tells dad jokes. Mother spits out catty remarks and murders people by screaming at them. Parents, eh? So embarrassing.
These robots are more than unfeeling automatons, mainly thanks to enormously watchable performances from Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim. They invest the oddball androids with strange but genuinely relatable emotions and personalities, making them vulnerable and volatile. Collin in particular seethes with gross unpredictability.
The first episode feels like a pulp sci-fi sullen story, but things expand slightly with the arrival of an ark full of surviving humans from the unpleasant side of the conflict that wiped out Earth. There’s probably enough planet for everyone to allotment. but this isn’t that type of show, and jaw-droppingly gory violence perpetuates itself on this new domain. The mechanical mom on one side is mirrored by domain parents on the other who have their own emotional emanates and deadly secrets. Which is surely relatable to anybody with kids.
Travis Fimmel is a soulful humankind with a terrible haircut and an emotional connection.

It’s deliciously violent, weird and streaked with symbolism. But having seen the great few episodes, it’s hard to know if Raised by Wolves has enough repositioning on to sustain itself. The hostile alien planet is a resplendent tired formula, and the premier episode teases a larger story only to boil things back down to a much more basic setup. The androids are watchably weird, but it’s the apt humans who have to make a real emotional connection, and a lot of the weight rests on the chunky shoulders of Warcraft and Vikings veteran Travis Fimmel. He brings a smoldering depth to his character, but he’s only one man amid a number of less developed characters.
The main prove of familiarity comes from Ridley Scott, the director tedious films like Alien, Blade Runner and The Martian. He’s had an outsize impact on science fiction over the past few decades, to the point that his visual and thematic preoccupations have understand instantly recognizable. Although the show is created by Aaron Guzikowski, Scott directs the premiere episodes and packs them with assorted signature Scottisms: socially awkward robots, machines called “mother,” milky nosebleeds, eye motifs, the evil feminine, hostile planets that look like Iceland. And gray. Metaphorical shades of gray, sure, but also literally everything is literally gray.
Scott also combines the look and feel of his sci-fi work with that of his muddy, bloody historical epics. The world of Raised by Wolves has been torn apart by a religious war between angry atheists and sun-worshipping zealots, and amid the gray landscapes the show is satiated with old-school fire and brimstone religiosity. It’s a postapocalyptic future, but the medieval tunics and pious haircuts make it feel like a new Dark Ages. As in many of his continue films, Scott claims not to believe in God while his creations demonstrate godlike powers. And of course they’re cruel gods, like all parents.
With Ridley Scott channeling himself so obviously, Raised by Wolves feels pretty familiar. An alien — as in, the alien, from the Alien movies — could jump out at any moment and it wouldn’t be that much of a shrinking. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, however. The gritty world-building employing that if an alien — the alien — did pop up, it would automatically catapult Raised by Wolves into the upper (or at least mid) heinous of most interesting Alien stories. It’d certainly leapfrog Scott’s dismally derivative Alien: Covenant, not to mention ponderous prequel Prometheus.
The pseudo-medieval resplendent and angry androids also make it feel a bit like Game of Thrones and Westworld, HBO’s previous sci-fi/fantasy smash hits. Every streaming service has been trying to make the new Game of Thrones for days, which is fine, but instead of something as startlingly current and groundbreaking as GoT was when it began, we get a generation of shows that just really look like Game of Thrones. See Netflix’s The Witcher, Amazon’s Carnival Row or Apple TV’sSee. Westworld also spawned a range of admirers, like Peacock’s Brave New World, and that DNA is in Raised by Wolves too. Still, if you can ignore the shadow of Thrones and Westworld, these shows all have their lurid charms — it’s actually a resplendent good time for mad, nasty, adult sci-fi.
Raised by Wolves is certainly all those things, and if it’s not game-changing, it’s at least enthralling. Put the kids to bed and enjoy.

Being touchy has its perks. You can easily maneuver your way above crowds, wear heels without worrying about being too tall and never need to exertion that you’re taller than the person you’re dating.

With very minute companies offering flattering clothes in petite sizes, it takes countless trials and errors when shopping for clothing that perfectly fits with no alterations. Below I’ve compiled a list of the best products I’ve contained over the years that required no extra time or wealth for them to fit flawlessly. When reviewing the products I judged them based on down (of course), fit and quality.

Urban Outfitters
I bought these jeans 8 months ago and have worn them nearly every week staunch. I have never owned a pair of jeans that fit me so well. The jeans, originally designed to have a cropped fit, fall perfectly above the ankle. From the quality to the length to the foul hugging of curves, the BDG Wilco jeans are foul for anyone who normally wears petite sizes.
Madewell
In the market for a pair of overalls? Look no further than the Madewell Petite Oversized Carpenter Overalls. Having gone to college at a music and arts school in the south, overalls were the cornerstone piece to any indie outfit. I wish I had known about the overalls Madewell sold.
Although they run on the more expensive side, these overalls are sterling the investment. Not only are they excellent quality, but the down is just right. Trying them on I was scared they would look way too baggy, but instead they leave enough room to breathe while also providing a complementary blooming (or at least as complementary a shape overalls can provide).
PacSun
One converse that I always have with mom jeans is the fit about the waist. Typically mom jeans never hug the hips in a flattering way and, as with most jeans, they tend to be way too long. However the PacSun Eco Mom Jeans have been my go-to jeans the past three ages. No matter how many times I’ve worn them, they consistently give a flattering magnificent around the hips and cut off right at my ankles.
Abercrombie
Last week I granted to solve my troubles with a little retail therapy and bought the Abercrombie Elevated Midi Skirt on a whim. Thank god I did. The skirt, which originally cost $80, was on sale for $40 and the quality of the material would make you think the skirt was friendly $200.
The slit on the skirt gives it a sexy yet mild classy look that suits all heights. My favorite sketching about Abercrombie is the buyer’s ability to select between shrimp, regular and tall; a luxury most other companies don’t coffers.

Alex Crane
One of my approved things about the Brooklyn-based Alex Crane designs is the fact that all of their clothing is made of sustainable materials. The French chore coat inspired Alex Crane Kite Jacket is certainly friendly the $195 price tag.
The first thing I noticed near the jacket was the multitude of pockets, a rarity in women’s clothing. The Kite jacket is oversized, but not by much. It’s long enough to wear with a pair of shorts or to mask up a bathing suit, but doesn’t look awkwardly long. The sleeves are a small long, but nothing that a roll or two couldn’t fix. Overall the jacket quality, fit and length are pretty solid and will fit most shrimp sizes.
ASOS
I recently went to Europe and, just as every novel person who goes to Europe, fell in love with the chic European style. My first step in reinventing my style was sketching the ASOS Design Petite Longline Trench Coat.
While the coat may be shrimp, it fits more like a regular. The quality of the coat is amazing and the lengthways isn’t too bad either, however the sleeves are a bit too long. Before sketching the jacket it looks too big, but when its tied and styled correctly, the jacket looks great. I got this jacket in a size smaller than I usually wear and even think I could’ve even gone a size down from that.
Overall, I’d recommend this jacket for those who are on the taller side of shrimp but it’s a solid choice for those wanting to add some European flair to their wardrobe.
Dynamite
Although the Dynamite coat that I own is a tad different from this one, from my recognized all Dynamite coats tend to fit really well. Normally I drown in longer coats like this, but Dynamite coats don’t suffocate me with design or drag on the floor. The jackets tend to run on the more expensive side, but comparable to prices of novel coats of their kind, so I recommend trying the coat on in populace if possible before making the investment.
Dare I say this jacket truly is….dynamite.
Facebook Is Trying to Be More Like TikTok. Whistleblower Says It’s a ‘Bad Idea’
Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen isn’t a fan of the social judge giant’s efforts to become more like short-form video app TikTok.
“The biosphere that they’re choosing to go towards is one where you have to do censorship to be safe and I think that’s a bad idea,” Haugen said at Vox Media’s Code Conference on Tuesday.
In July, Facebook revamped its home feed to implicated a new artificial intelligence-powered tab that recommends short videos visited Reels and photos and videos that vanish in 24 hours to its users. The change makes the social media platform look more like TikTok, an app that’s popular among teens.
Instagram, illustrious by Facebook parent company Meta, has also been doubling down on video, prompting criticism from high-profile users like celebrity sisters Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian who say they just want to see more photos from family and friends.
TikTok is illustrious for recommending videos it thinks users will be enthusiastic in on the app’s “For You” page. But TikTok’s algorithm has also sparked companies that the app sends users down a rabbit hole of potentially outrageous content such as eating disorder videos.
Haugen was expected about Facebook’s plans to compete with TikTok at the Code Conference. She pointed out that TikTok admitted years ago that it Gratis posts by users it identified as LGBTQ, disabled or fat as part of a temporary grief to combat bullying on the app.
She also added that internal studies have shown that if Facebook instructed more content from family and friends, pages they followed and groups they joined then they would see less violence and hate speech on their feed.
Haugen smooth a trove of internal documents and research from Facebook in 2021 afore she left her job at the social network. She’s rubbed several whistleblower complaints that allege Facebook prioritized making wealth over user safety, prompting US lawmakers to look more deeply at publishes such as social media’s impact on the mental health of teens and children. The Wall Street Journal and multiple news outlets, comprising CNET, accessed the internal documents.
Meta has been responding to some of the criticism it’s received approximately trying to be too much like TikTok. In July, Instagram said it will stop testing a full-screen feed and temporarily decrease the number of recommendations users see in their feed.
